I am able to get past the window by pressing tab and enter numerous times, but even then the in-game menus are still too large for the screen, even when forced to a lower resolution or when the game is forced to be windowed.

For me I just nicely side-step this by being on the Editorial team which gives me Premium privileges (which is still an option for everyone, so start writing/contributing!) but I still do not have an Ad blocker on largely due to being too lazy to get one. :|

I needed to change the executable permissions of the main game binary before the game would launch on my Arch Linux setup, and now I am also stuck on the "Beta Configuration" window as it is way too large to fit on my screen and does not show any interface items. I have a 17' inch LCD monitor at 1280x1024 resolution.

Porting games and working on other IP's isn't going to work especially for 3rd party studios that do console ports and PC and Mac ports. It takes time.
Yes, it might be time for a rise in professional porting houses again. At least for older titles that were not developed with cross-platform in mind.

Back in the day Loki Software made stellar ports of some very Linux unfriendly games. What they lacked was an effective means of distribution. That is not a problem anymore.

What I do not understand is the assumption that AAA developers need to be baby coddled while Indie developers do not. With Indie games we expect quality native ports and by and large receive them, but when a AAA developer shows up suddenly we are all supposed to accept a sub-par effort from a company with far more resources than those Indie developers. This makes no sense to me.

Quite frankly I have seen the same or worse by people trying to demand a Linux version of a game. The problem is people, and not a preference of license.

It should also be pointed out that the license in question is the LGPL, not the GPL itself as is claimed by the article, which is more in line although not the same as the MIT license which is Liam's preference in this instance.

Further, if he had gone to the FSF nothing would have come of it as they know their license, as was pointed out in the thread through this link with quotes from Eben Moglen:

About the only entity that could have actually threatened them based on that threat is Valve, and they seem rather slow on acting on more serious copyright violations anyway.
