Quoting: MayeulCTeleporters have been a longtime feature in games

Sure, even Doom had them long ago.

Quoting: MayeulCHere, I think the distinction is that players can place them on walls themselves.

That's much less common, for sure.

Quoting: MayeulCThe portals are interesting. I think they had this as some point in Quake World?

Weren't there some in Quake3 Arena?

Quoting: MayeulCI hope they can put out the fire from their servers before every other big game company starts to copy the concept.

I haven't seen mention of how they plan to monetize - are they selling cosmetic items?

A new Valve game for the Steam Deck? It's not out of the realm of possibility

Quoting: a0kamiThe other challenge is their engine, as they've always been quite friendly with FOSS tech and standards such as OpenGL, their old games are on Linux because they've included an OpenGL renderer

As I understand it, they used a Direct3D wrapper called ToGL:

Quoting: CatKillerSure, it would encourage them to press the "build for Linux" button for some free money, which is more than many devs do, but it wouldn't encourage them to do any testing or provide any support. At all.

Sure, but as users we can request refunds and leave bad reviews. Most devs don't want a bad reputation (which is one reason some of them don't bother to get their feet wet).

Quoting: mylkasince it is an open device you may can install windows by yourself
but i think steamos is very optimized for it, so maybe even better performance with proton, than with windows on it

If it's a custom graphics chip, it may not be so easy to get good graphics drivers for Windows. Not to mention that AMD's drivers are a bit... lackluster, compared to the open source ones.

Quoting: ShmerlHuh? The article mentions Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodhunt. Never heard of it. Is it a new game in development?

This sure looks similar to (how I remember) Duke Nukem 1 and 2; probably the same engine. Looks like GOG doesn't have *any* Duke Nukem games, surprisingly.

Quoting: Orkultusfirst glance it looks like Mac OS, or windows 11, with that icon bar

LOL, my first thought on seeing Windows 11 screenshot was that they copied COSMIC (I think they showed that design before Win11 builds were out?).

Quoting: KohlyKohlDash to Panel has limited real-estate and you quickly end up with hidden icons that you have to scroll horizontally to access.

Do you have a small screen, tons of favorites, or just tons of running apps? I've never seen that here, but it seems like you could mitigate it by specifying everything be on the left or right, with no center section.

Also, I can't remember it ever crashing on me; perhaps that is related to your "hidden icons" state.
