There's also a nice GreaseMonkey script, which adds the ProtonDB ratings on the Steam game pages:

Quoting: bekoFedora next?

Nope, they will not include proprietary bits by default. It's well supported via RPMFusion though.

FOSS game engine "OpenRCT2" for RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 has a fresh release out

Looks like I have the original game on Steam, which made me think about a cool project: a Steam compatibility tool that would auto-download the latest open source engine and launch the game with that.

It would be similar to dreamer's steam-dos project:
https://github.com/dreamer/steam-dos

But rather than launching DOSBox, it would have to support specific games/engines.

Quoting: Maathwith physical games, there has always been a used games market.

This is one of the biggest reasons I don't like paying "full price" for digital games. Besides that, by the time I get around to playing them, they have usually been out for quite a while...

Quoting: Maaththe continued failure of the credit card industry to secure their systems from such rampant fraud.

They could care less about fraud, they screw either the consumer or the merchant, and get their transaction fees regardless.

Quoting: MaathI'd love to see Steam allow selling and reselling keys as often as you like. If they already have the ability to take away one's access to a game after verifying a fraudulent purchase, then they should be able to manage the hand off of a used game from one owner to the next.

Sounds great to me!

The next Humble Monthly is out, with two more interesting early unlock games

Quoting: MorguldirSomething to note about Surviving Mars and the Deluxe Editions, if you purchase this humble monthly bundle you get the base game, but you will still have to pay the same price for the Deluxe Edition and First Colony Edition.

Yeah, I noticed (and was annoyed by) that, too. I thought I could get a cheaper upgrade to First Colony Edition, but nope. Paradox did the same with Stellaris and the "Starter Pack" - learn to use the bundle feature, guys!

No idea of the quality, but I saw the same developers have a number of other free games (some are adventure games, some are other types):

Quoting: namikoRight, the "math one" is "Super Solvers: Outnumbered!" and the "reading one" is "Super Solvers: Midnight Rescue".

Oh wow - been about 30 years since I've last seen those!

QuotePlatforms like Proton and Lutris are beginning to make WINE obsolete.
Wine is really the base of Proton, and without it Lutris won't work with Windows games either, so it's hardly obsolete ;)

I'm guessing the intent there was "... beginning to make *manually mucking about with* WINE obsolete."

I was another Kickstarter backer, and I'm glad to see the project made it to completion! Sorry to hear the publisher tried to kill the Linux support, but not too surprising - they refused to support Linux for the new Myst collection, even though they used CodeWeavers to (partially?) support macOS:
