The voice acting is good, but the English translation (from German?) sounds a bit too literal...

Six years ago today, Steam was released for Linux - Happy Birthday

Quoting: stretch611Odd... This must be some type of coincidence because it can't possibly be related to the story. :P

But according to the badge on my profile page, my years of service on Steam will hit 6 years within the next two months. How odd is that being so close to 6 years of Steam on linux?
Definitely not a coincidence for me that I hit 6 years on December 19th... Steam beta!

I bought a lot of the games Loki published, every iD title that had Linux binaries, and even a stack of LGP titles when they had a big sale. But I've always had the same problem... more games than time to play. :(

There's some pretty big sales going on right now, here's a look

Quoting: etamYou can link your steam account with lutris and list of your games gets synchronized automatically.
But it only syncs the library partially, not all the games are there... and additionally you cannot get it to sync multiple accounts.
I haven't tried any recent builds, but last I saw it only looks for games in your default Steam library folder.

Steam Play versus Linux Version, a little performance comparison and more thoughts

Quoting: MagicMythI can see Steam Proton soon being able to run a tone of older games easily that Windows 10 either requires a lot of hacks for or just can't be done. It will be a funny time when a large amount of one's Windows games collection only works on Linux as the years go by.
Back when Steam Play was still a rumor, I theorized that: 1) it was at least partially based on WINE (correct), and 2) it would be used not only on Linux, but also on macOS and Windows (for games that broke on newer Windows versions). It looks like the macOS support was there early on but got axed (due to Apple being so anti-gaming with their API support), and so far they haven't done it for Windows. But they could in the future?

Another Steam Client Beta is out, adds the ability to force Steam Play

The "0 byte downloads" aren't completely gone! Here's one easy way to trigger it:

1) Open the properties of a native game
2) Check the "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool" checkbox
3) Immediately, there is an update queued
4) Uncheck the box and close the dialog

You will now get a 0 byte download. At least in this scenario, it makes sense how you get that result.

Quoting: PhlebiacI still wish they would change it so that you can have the officially supported games in the "STEAMOS + LINUX" view, but be able to launch unsupported games via Steam Play from the "GAMES" view. Right now, you have to globally enable Steam Play, and then the Linux view has both supported and unsupported games in it. Plus switching between modes requires a client restart - annoying.
It's slightly less annoying with the current beta; you can leave the globally enabled Steam Play option off, and force Proton to be used for specific Windows games. But that still makes them show up under the STEAMOS + LINUX view.

Reworked global Steam Play enable settings to only override the Proton version used by unsupported games
What do they mean by that? You can't override the Proton version for a whitelisted game?
I think that means the global option no longer makes officially supported games use a newer version which may not work due to regressions, but you can still override on a per-game basis if you really want to. I think this is much better.

Valve has been clearing out the backlog for Steam this month, I'm loving it! I still wish they would change it so that you can have the officially supported games in the "STEAMOS + LINUX" view, but be able to launch unsupported games via Steam Play from the "GAMES" view. Right now, you have to globally enable Steam Play, and then the Linux view has both supported and unsupported games in it. Plus switching between modes requires a client restart - annoying.

This was over 20 years ago.
NAT on the client side, SNI on the server side - and suddenly the "shortage" isn't so important.
