Am feeling disappointed by this..
When all the gaming legends of the 80s and 90s are either no more, or are all owned by two or three companies worldwide, it will be a sad day.
Hopefully there is still room for established names to publish on the indie scene. :)

Always meant to spend time with this one, as an old Escape Velocity fan. Might now be the time!
RetroArch brings more emulator cores to Steam including PPSSPP

So, game emulation would be a big factor in me eventually buying a steam deck.
Playing the old classics on this sounds so much more appealing then playing a FPS on reduced screen size and trying to take out a sniper shooting from under cover.
I know some people are getting excited about FPS on this, but unless the games are designed to play well on the smaller format..
Will not hold my breath.
As far as Steam RetroArch vs non Steam version, just thinking if you like to play your emulated games full screen, and you like to easily map controls to a game pad then Steam has some ease of use factors on its side.

Interplay updating many classic titles on Steam to add support for Linux

So yes, a bit of history there. But better full screen support with upscaled graphics
for modern displays would make the Descent series worthwhile for me.
Looking forward to playing Descent 2 on the Steam Deck.
So does this mean native Linux support, or through Proton?

Quoting: foggerYou can already play those games easily on Linux with DOSBox. I don't know why they are selling those games on Steam or GOG when most of those those games can be downloaded for free, legally, at archive.org.Battle Chess was released by Interplay for the Commodore 64 in the mid 80’s

Say what you want about DirectX 12,
but DirectX 12 and Vulcan are both
supported by AMD and Nvidia.
Granted Nvidia’s support for Vulcan was late to the party, but that seems to be changing now.

Quoting: ShmerlSo Mantle was an AMD project. Nvidia was not exactly supporting it. So by siding with AMD you alienate half your gaming base.Quoting: ArtenMS probably knew about Mantle before it has been made public and by then, they could have work on DX12.AMD didn't exactly keep it a secret. They wanted to make it a base for the common API from the early on. Everyone collaborated on it. MS and Apple pushed their NIHs instead knowing very well that it will slow down progress.

Unvanquished gets a small bug-fix release for graphical issues and a Flatpak

Am always puzzled where Snapd and FlatPak store the config files for the games they install.
Once installed NetHack as a Snap. The config file normally installed in the home folder (.nethackrc) was not there, nor was I able to work out how to save settings.
Gave up looking for the Snap equivalent of the home folder, though I probably just do not know Snapd well enough

Will it be on Steam / will I get a Steam key later if I buy it now?
Putting the game on Steam is something I want to look at when the game is more or less “done”. It’s a complicated decision for various reasons – there are upsides and downsides, and it’s not something you can easily try and then back out of.
If the game ends up on Steam, and if Valve still allows developers to generate keys for this purpose, then I’d like to get keys to existing players. However, that’s too many ifs to make a promise, so I would recommend assuming “no Steam key” for any purchasing decision made now.

Sorry, meant death squared. But looks like you have your own inspiration.
Will give it a go. You like working with Godot engine then?

Will definitely try this. Not enough simple Sokoban games to play around with these days.
Looks like it was partly inspired by Move or Die, but could be wrong there.
