"You are the Pilot, a volunteer in the United Earth Navy, assigned to the U.E.N. Hornet, a new ship with an experimental engine that allows it to warp behind enemy lines. Launching your small fighter craft from the Hornet, your mission is to sabotage the enemy by raiding their bases and disrupting their power supply network made up of reactor cores connected through hyperspace."
Why do all games now require 2 minutes of story before you get to the action?
What was wrong with the old idea of just throwing you in there?
No I don't know why I'm here. I really don't care just let me dodge rocks and shoot the enemy.
---
So I just tried playing the game, read ten pages of story (slight exageration),
and failed to comprehend that UP was Thrust.
Trying to play this game on a Gamepad, I tried every single button on the Gamepad.
Starting again I finally realised that left stick was not just steering but also thrust,
which I hate and had to remap it to right trigger before I was happy.
Think it has been too long since I gamed primarily using keyboard. The C64 used the joystick up for thrust a bit in similar games. But it was harder to try and do left right on a joystick and slip into up by mistake, where modern gamepads it seems pretty easy to slip into the y axis.

Fall Guys to become Epic Exclusive for new owners, so no Steam Deck support then

Was thinking of sending Fall Guys my money.
I guess that’s cancelled then.
If Epic are paying them they don’t need my money anyway.

Fedora Linux 36 is officially out now

So Nobara is strictly Gnome and Plasma flavours currently. Do I really want to game in Gnome?

Quoting: Guesti'm currently using the Nobara Project OS which is Fedora with extra's for gaming. It has being on 36 for a while with very little issues, hopefully this update will fix all of those :DThink I will wait a bit for Nobara to get more established. Perfectly happy with Manjaro for now.

“ Max disk capacity for journald logs is now limited to 1GB.”
I would have thought this was basics 101.
Are System76 the first to put a limit on the size of journald?
Sorry but this is one of my pet hates of SystemD. I remember afternoons trying to work out what was using all my drive space. Will probably get a printout of journalctl --disk-usage to happen on autostart.

Quoting: HeroesFanSorry, did not mean to sound sarcastic at all.Quoting: Craggles086Hi Craggles!Quoting: whizseNot really any conflict. It's SOP for engine recreations.Fair enough. :)
Edit: Just so there's no confusion: the "free" in fheroes is the same free as in Free Software [External Link]. It doesn't refer to price.

Is there a plan to have free content packs available someday as in freeDoom?
First I want to underline that there is the possibility to use the freely available Heroes 2 demo to get all needed assets to use the engine and play the game. There's even an easily available script with fheroes2 that sets up the engine to use the demo. The demo has the same fundamental assets as base Heroes 2, i.e. without the Price of Loyalty expansion pack. What you miss out on is official libsmack videos, offical CD quality music, official campaigns and having more than one official map. The required UI assets for campaigns are there, so even user-made campaigns are possible. Quite fortunately, Heroes 2 is a game that has been out for a long time and so free user-made maps can easily be found online.
In other words 'free content' is already available in the form of user-made maps (I take it we do not only define free content as graphical assets).
Here is a recent pack of 1000 user-made maps shared on heroes3wog
https://heroes3wog.net/heroes-2-maps-collection-download/ [External Link]
As is stated there, they work with the fheroes2 engine. The same would go for any replacement assets made for Heroes 2, but to my knowledge none have been made except for a Christmas-themed graphical mod, but since this mod edits the original assets I wouldn't say it's 'clean room'.
Also any music in .mp3, .flac or .ogg is supported if the user should provide them to the engine in a 'music' folder.
I hope your doubts have been answered!

Also it is encouraging to see Microsoft support for SteamDeck might not just be some passing Fad but they look like providing ongoing support.
This hopefully means performance tuning for SteamDeck / Linux in the future and maybe even a native version? :)

“Free Heroes of Might and Magic II (fheroes2) is a recreation of HoMM2 game engine.”
So Free Heroes game requires the game data from GOG install which is not free to play?
Not that I mind buying game data, but can you then call it Free?
Anyone else notice a conflict here? Or is it intended that the game will eventually come with its own free game data and not require the proprietary stuff to play?

Linux distro EndeavourOS has the 'Apollo' release out now

So if EndeavourOS had a testing and a Stable or LTS branch then I would be sold. Arch breaks too often and Manjaro is too heavy and has too many background tasks running.
If you could build your own system out of Manjaro in the same way you do with Arch then it would be cool. And no, Architect does not quite cut it.
If EndeavourOS could switch to a selection of packages that would not update until they had been tested then it would trump all other Arches!

As Linux Native does not necessarily mean that it gets Steam Deck Verified status.

Quoting: WorMzyNice to see there are Linux spec requirements on the Steam page -- they're not just phoning it in like some half-arsed devs and expecting people to run the Windows version of the game in Proton. :wub:Considering the original Stanley Parable is linux native, it should not take too mach to port any expansions to the original over to this one. My biggest question is if it will be steam deck verrified?
