Valve has proved to a mass market that their idea works with the SteamDeck.
Consumers should be a lot less sceptical about what a Steam Console without windows is capable of, Proton has now proven itself capable and has been accepted as such for anything outside the anti-cheat MMO’s.
Now if they can only get the pricing right, as they did on the SteamDeck then we have a gaming computer that can play the majority of PC games, and is priced competitively with building your own PC. Also functions well as a console. Whole different story to the first Steam Machines.
I would say it will only work if Valve are producing the hardware themselves but would love to be proved wrong.

No question, will buy.
My two Steam Controller 1’s getting a bit old.
Hoping some of the games that dropped Steam Controller support after Valve said the first one was on its last day’s bring it back.
While Steam Input is handy mapping things to the thumb pad. Gets so tedious doing it for every single game.

To be honest if I get a SteamDeck the first thing I will be doing with it is loading up a C64 emulator and playing some of my old favourites….
Or waiting for System 3 to release that Last Ninja back catalog they keep on talking about.
Kinda feels like a waste of the hardware

Steam Controller 2 is apparently a thing and being 'tooled for a mass production' plus a new VR controller

I would love a racing game to allow me to steer using the thumb pad, as I think that would give me a finer degree of control then most gamepads in racing games.
Have to practice my Steam Input skills so I can set it up. But think it would perform better if the game supported it natively

Resource gathering?
Does that sound more like the Settlers games, rather than something you would see in Civ?

ascribe Australian nationality to any New Zealander who has success on the world stage. Something that annoys my New Zealand friends incredibly.
I have no doubt that Australian release includes NZ. Or is at least included in the postage.

Quoting: ElectricPrismMy Australian friends, (me being Australian)Quoting: Craggles086Yeah, gotta work out if I get this one or wait for Steam Deck 2 nowAFAIK Valve developers commented that their intended Steam Deck release cycle would be (estimated no less than 4 years intervals, certainly not following the gpu trend of 1 or 2 years) -- this presents fewer targets for game developers and allows purchasers to enjoy their handheld consoles longer instead of be obsoleted every year or two.
Quoting: Craggles086Meanwhile New Zealand must be fuming as no mention of it in the release notes..My NZ friends notoriously would fly for years to Aussy if they needed new gear (eg: Apple), so I've just been under the impression that 'It's a kiwi thang'.

Quoting: PhlebiacI have played some brilliant asteroid clones over the years, including one two player that I forget the name of. Unfortunately the original game with original graphics does not quite live up to my memories.Quoting: mark348any recommendations from these?Lacking nostalgia for the originals, nothing jumps out at me; I guess you are in the same boat.

Does Arch include all the Arch spins/derivitives, other than manjaro?
Just surprised to see Arch with twice the user count of Ubuntu. Guess the Linux market has moved on.
