Quoting: scaineI really enjoyed the first one and this looks a little deeper, so I'll do doubt end up getting this too.
This game looks appealing to me. But it looks so similar to the previous one. Since it sounds like you have played the prior, should I go for that one, or jump right into the new one?

F1 2017 released for Linux as Feral Interactive’s first Vulkan-only title, here’s a port report

Quoting: janpanDid you also use vulkan on Windows or did you run it on Directx on windows.

Is this a vulkan vs vulkan comparission or a vulkan vs directx ?
The Windows version has no Vulkan option. It is DX11 only.

The difference is the Nvidia driver versions. Your video demo, they are using 384.90. Here, Liam was using the newer 387.22.

Feral has made a statement (read it on Phoronix), that the 387 has a regression. So, I would not be taking these numbers here into consideration. The performance is actually much better & closer to Windows.
Hmm…
Much better! That is at least acceptable, albeit Vulkan should be better than DirectX 11 (after all that is what it was invented for) and not worse.
Yes, agreed, Vulkan should be (and is) better. But, this isn't a game and engine, built to run on Vulkan (think Doom), or even Linux. This is a engine, built for Windows and being manipulated and translated to work on Linux. And out the gate, we are seeing decent and what seem to be stable results. More than can be said about Assassins Creed Origins from what I'm seeing.

Between Feral possibly making a few tweaks, and Nvidia maybe making some improvements (on top of fixing their regression of course), that gap will maybe close, but not likely to pass. Especially since, Nvidia, will be able to spend more to make sure that game gets the best FPS on Windows, through improvements to their drivers, than Feral will be able to do on improvements. There is just more money on the Windows side today.

Hopefully, that will change one day.

Quoting: Alm888Well… Let's pretend for a minute I am using Steam (and in reality nothing short of threats of execution will force me to do that). So, according to the benchmark I am forced to buy twice as expensive hardware (or even make an upgrade in the first place!) compared to Windows version!

This is bad. Like, really bad! Feral should be disallowed from trashing Linux reputation with its "Feral-ports" any further.

Really, I'm on my last leg here trying not to swear. Really. Hope this is the last "port" from this studio. We don't need such piss-poor "ports", ever.

P.S. Sorry for the rant. Hope I didn't insult anyone.

Quoting: GuestThe benchmark values are really looking bad.
But if you take a look at the video comparision here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojKC5kXopCs [External Link]

it looks much better for Linux, roughly 10% difference.
Note sure why the results differ that much.

Quoting: rustybroomhandleMy desire to play this is wrestling with my strong dislike of the CEO of this company. :/ I think in the end a surprise third challenger will enter the arena - my empty wallet. :)
What is the reason for dislike for the CEO?

What have you been playing and what do you think?

I'm currently playing the following:

FORCED
Evoland
Mad Max (Vulkan)
Dirt Rally
Planet Explorers
Shellshock Live

The games vary in difficulty. So I pay Mad Max when I am looking for a more relaxing gaming experience and go to FORCED when I am looking to be challenged. Dirt Rally for when I want to go fast and Evoland when I'm feeling like going back in time.

Ryan "Icculus" Gordon is looking for new games to port to Linux, pay not required

Quoting: MintedGamerI would definitely buy this game for Linux, there aren't enough RTS games like this any more.
Tbh I've been waiting on a modern Supreme Commander for linux for what feels like an eternity !
Did you ever check out Planetary Annihilation: TITANS? It is made by some of the same developers from Supreme Commander. I really liked it and it's available in Linux.

As for this game, I posted my support for it yesterday and will definitely buy if released on Linux as it's my only system, and the options in bug titles is limited.
