I hope they end up enabling it and not becoming another Microshit shills.

The single-player story mode continues to work though. At least you don't get locked out entirely of the game like EA is doing with the Battlefield series (retroactively).

Microsoft Windows kernel changes don't suddenly mean big things for Linux gaming

Clearly they won't give up easily on the kernel-level anticheat thing, that helps them to keep a grip on Linux gaming to prevent (or try to) it to take off.
Also I haven't bought any Sony game besides Days Gone, and since I read this, things are going to stay that way, because I have no guarantee they won't sabotage those games as well.
Quoting: RandomizedKirbyTree47Sadly, we are not much in raw numbers to make pressure and cause a change, because that's active sabotage and discrimination.Destiny 2 is not supported for play on the Steam Deck or on any system utilizing Steam Play's Proton...Players who are not accessing Destiny 2 through Windows and attempt to bypass the SteamOS/Proton incompatibility will be met with a game ban.As I don't play online multiplayer games, I'm going to ignore the main point of the article and rant about one of my pet peeves:
That is not what the words "not supported" mean!
Let's look at a real example of a software developer not supporting something. Mozilla does not support building or running Firefox on FreeBSD. Mozilla employees do not test Firefox on FreeBSD. Mozilla typically does not make any changes to their code with FreeBSD in mind. If Firefox works on FreeBSD, cool: Mozilla doesn't care. If Firefox doesn't work on FreeBSD, too bad: Mozilla still doesn't care, because it's unsupported by Mozilla.
(On the other hand, the FreeBSD developers do support running Firefox on FreeBSD, and if it doesn't work, that's a bug you can report to FreeBSD.)
If Sony truly didn't support Destiny 2 on Linux, they would not test Destiny 2 on Linux, and they would not write any code that is specifically intended to apply to running it on Linux. It might be possible to get the game running under Proton, or it might not, but Sony wouldn't care if they were truly "not supporting" Linux.
But that's not what's happening. Sony isn't merely ignoring Linux. They are paying their programmers to do more work to write code specifically to break Destiny 2 on Linux. They are paying people to actively test Destiny 2 on Linux to make sure it is broken. Sony is supporting Linux, with the explicit goal of making it not work.

Acer enter the handheld PC gaming race with the Nitro Blaze 7

And Valve still has not enabled the sale of the Deck in a lot of countries...other vendors like Asus sell theirs worldwide.
While is being managed better than Steam Machines, Deck could sell A LOT more by making it available everywhere.

Quoting: Mountain ManSadly, there's no way out of this... or there could be?Quoting: BumadarIt remains a shame that even after the success of the steam deck and proton and steam os the big vendors still keep going back to windows 11. As long as that keeps happening Linux will never really take off. But I guess they rather pay MS a fee for the licence and hire some programmers for another custom app. Money much better spend on steam os and the Linux kernel. The problem is that the big vendors have contracts with Microsoft that give them a discount on Microsoft products in exchange for installing Windows and related malware on every PC they sell. If Acer were to ship this Nitro Blaze thing with an alternate operating system, they would likely be in breach of contract and facing a lawsuit from a ruthless company with deep pockets and well-paid lawyers. At the same time, Valve has proven that the portable PC gaming market is too profitable to ignore, and so we end up with handheld PCs with Windows installed despite it being the least suitable operating system for the purpose.
A shame.

Quoting: MohandevirLet's just hope Microsoft end up locking them out of kernel access, just to make this a complete waste of time and money, for EA.I guess that won't happen anytime soon (unless something EXTREMELY BAD happens, like a massive exploit and/or data breach), since -on purpose or not-, this allows M$ to gatekeep gaming and prevent desktop Linux and Linux-based handhelds to reach their maximum potential.

So yeah, quality of life improvements only with little to no changes in graphics/renderers, except that they killed support for older hardware, nice!
NVIDIA driver 555.58 released as stable bringing Wayland Explicit Sync

I just upgraded to this driver and yeah, finally Wayland is usable on Nvidia!! Before I got black screen, then a few months ago, lots of glitches and corruption, and now it's a lot better, but still have issues, not sure if it's because my system is a 1060 dGPU + HD2000 iGP
* Brave browser has a memory leak (not on X11)
* Plasmashell also has a memory leak (not on X11)
* Waking up the system from suspension ends up in screen garbage, which fixes itself (kinda) after a minute or two.
* Sometimes the system starts with the iGPU as default instead of Nvidia one and glitches are over the place.
The good is that the game performance is increased, before I had dips to the 20s/30s in Hellblade, now it doesn't dip below 50. But gets neglected since Plasmashell will eat up the RAM anyways.

I guess Assassin's Creed Origins does the same, everytime I enter the skill tree menu, and I hover some skill to preview it, the framerate tanks when the preview starts playing, and returns to normal when I stop hovering.
Sadly, being on Nvidia means I won't be able to get this fix.
