Quoting: tumocsI got finally back into Wasteland 2 in intention to finish it.
It's absolutely brilliant but also crashy as fuck unless you pump up ulimit just for the game.
I like my shittalking pacifist hippie leader and idiot massive strongwoman who hits shit with a bat.
Same here, I stream a LP and also plan to finish it this time around. I can't even start the game without increasing ulimit to 4096 for it. After that it's mostly OK. I've had sessions where it worked for 8 hours straight without a hitch and others where it crashed after an hour at the loading screen. Not sure those crashes are ulimit related, but they might be.
I played through Wasteland 2 and if I'm not wrong I did have one crash. At most. And what's this ulimit thing? What does it do? I surely didn't touch it.
Wasteland 2 suffers from a bug where it opens a lot of files and doesn't close them. The number of files a program can have opoen at a time is usually limited on Linux. These are my defaults:
$ ulimit -Hn
4096
$ ulimit -Sn
1024

I can increase the soft limit up to the hard limit as a user, but no higher:
$ ulimit -Sn 4096
$ ulimit -Sn 5000
ulimit: value exceeds hard limit

If I want to exceed that I need to edit /etc/security/limits.conf as root. Obviously none of that should be necessary to play a game, especially not monkeying around as root and relaxing security related things.

Also a bit of Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup recently. Been trying to work with Ru as a god so far, but haven't really settled on what race/class to be with it yet.
Oh I love this game :)

Recently I've been testing Linux builds of Crashlands, Regions of Ruin and SPICY MEATBALL. I've also played a bit of Oblivion through wine and started a LP of Wasteland 2.

I do understand that you wish you could play this game right away, but you seem to be overly frustrated by what is likely just a delay. You didn't pre-order or anything, did you? So what did you lose? You can't play the game right at launch, but you will likely be able to play a less buggy version of it a bit later. What's the big deal?

Wine Staging 2.18 is out with fixes for Battle.net, Uplay & Origin also bugs fixed with Overwatch

For Mesa, you can use this freeze prevention patch [External Link].
So the wine fix for the freeze bug is not in yet?

RUINER still may not come to Linux, encountering technical issues

My guess would be issues with OpenGL/Shaders.
Anyway, I'm with Shmerl here, they should reach out to the community and/or fellow developers. The knowledge to make ports work is there.

This is a good example of a bad trailer.

Maybe the game is still OK.

Open source gamepad config tool 'SC Controller' has a pre-release to support more gamepads

Quoting: fagnerlnOh man, thank you so much!
Mostly of unity games doesn't recognize correctly my x360 controller, I installed the steamos-xpad and now it's working...

Why this isn't on mainline kernel?
Glad that helped you. I really don't know why this stuff isn't the default, I never looked into it. One thing I figure while looking into this stuff is that some open-source games expect the XBox 360 controller to work differently than most other games. I think default xpad supports these games.

It would really be worth it to create a sort of gamepad wiki. Or at least for the Xbox controllers since they are such a mess.
