Open source gamepad config tool 'SC Controller' has a pre-release to support more gamepads

You are right that others are easier to work with. Saldy XBox controllers got established as a standard of sorts for some reason. Plenty of games support only those, even some game engines assume these controllers. I got those controllers for this reason alone. Not because they are good in some way, or comfortable, simply because they promised less hassle. Seems like the opposite is true, at least on Linux.
I've spent days trying to get those controllers to work with Darksiders (using xboxdrv and x360ce), without success. Damn these things.

Quoting: kozecThing is, gamepads are pain in the ass because of xbox controller. It's The One that works differently from everything else while being backed up by "Windows company", so games have to support it. SC-Controller support evdev as fallback, so it may work with it, but it is targeted on that category of all other controllers :)Thanks for helping with controller setup.

By the way, @Liam, thanks for all your articles. It's interesting thing to find one's own application in RSS feed :)

Why do gamepads have to be such a pain in the ass?

Quoting: GuestExactly, xboxdrv is hell to set up. The stock kernel driver (xpad) is simpler, but doesn't work correctly with most games. The modified one by steam (steamos-xpad) seems to work better. And it gets a hell of a lot more complicated with wine games.Quoting: lucifertdarkI bought an Xinput controller and I had to spend hours to configure it with xboxdrv anyway.Quoting: Sir_DiealotNo Xbox 360 controller support?Doesn't Xbox360 controller support come as standard for most Linux Distros these days?I don’t know what SC Controller is for, but if it helps with that configuration… great!(I didn’t notice that it was using Gtk3…)

Quoting: lucifertdarkSupport yes, but there are at least three different drivers, some of which are very difficult to configure.Quoting: Sir_DiealotNo Xbox 360 controller support?Doesn't Xbox360 controller support come as standard for most Linux Distros these days?

I gladly beta-test Linux versions of games, but I won't buy to test. I've even relaxed my anti-steam policy to "use it if testing requires it" for testing Crashlands and Region of Ruins, but I still won't buy anything there.
As for the game, I played a bunch of S.P.A.Z. and it wasn't bad, but got grindy. This trailer shows mostly the new 3D graphics, which looks cool, but probably is hell for actually playing it. I hope you'll still be able to play top-down (parts of the video suggest that).

There's now a Linux build of Unity 2017.3, with a new installer

Oh, there's Unity for Linux now?
Guess I'll have to take a look at it then.
I'll still hate it, but I'll at least have a more informed opinion.
What I find funny is that they don't even aknowledge its existence on their beta download page. You can only find some old blog posts and a forum thread.
Well, maybe it helps some devs stuck on Unity to better debug the Linux version of their games.

Quoting: Crazy PenguinYep, no Linux version on GOG: https://www.gog.com/game/tooth_and_tail [External Link]Quoting: Sir_DiealotSure that you have been on the correct store page? ;)Quoting: Crazy PenguinMeh! Not on GOG yet :(Correction: No Linux version on GOG. I wonder what's the reason this time, since it doesn't have an online focus.
I like this two:
- Ogres can now disembark their ships and attack even if your land is completely walled off
- Viking ships now have catapults
As you can find on the store page:
Works on: Windows (7, 8, 10), Mac OS X (10.10+) and Linux (Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 16.04)
Also the download version for the game is similar for all three platforms: 105r1
Edit: It should be something with 106 e.g. v106 or 106r1
