I was considering getting this game when it's on sale on GOG.
Instead I'm going to buy it today, full price.
I prefer to use anonymous pre-paid cards for my games purchases, even if there's no need to. That's why I haven't bought it yet. I have to run to a store first.
Regarding g2a, this is one of the videos TotalBiscuit made about it. There were some more before/after that one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cac0ACHux-Q [External Link]

Thanks for plugging vineyard, I'll give it a shot.
PoL has a lot of issues, Lutris some, not easily being able to creat a prefix and install a game is one.
Maybe vineyard is the way to go.

Dual booting, installing Linux, pretty much everything is beyond Average Joe.
So we need to talk about other people, with at least some technical expertese or willingness to read and try stuff.
And then wine or VM doesn't make a whole lot of difference in how hard it is.
Wine is very smooth for most games and a major pain with some. Not sure how much steam complicates things. I'm talking about GOG with a simple exe installer and with that it usually just works.
Here's one way to look at it. Dosbox allows me to play DOS era games. Wine allows me to play Windows XP era games. For that it works even better than modern Windows. It even allows me to play some newer Windows games!
Thanks to DOSBox I haven't needed DOS in the last 20 years. Thanks to Wine I haven't needed Windows in the last 10 years.

Haemimont did a great job on Victor Vran and the newer tropico games are OK too (still love the first one) https://www.haemimontgames.com/?#games [External Link]
So I might buy it, as long as it doesn't become DLC hell like tropico 4 and 5

I wonder how you can promote a game with such a bad video. It's even stuttering.
Edit: Just watched the gameplay video. It looks like early access stuff. If they work on it for another 1/2 year or year it might become decent.

The only people who can fix this situation are the devs.

Quoting: Alm888That's exactly my problem with Galaxy.Quoting: Sir_DiealotGalaxy allows those games to work without the steam client. And locks games to Galaxy. :D
No, thanks. We don't need to replace one store lock-in with another.

It is so confusing that they call it Realms of Arkania in English. The German name is Das Schwarze Auge, usually abbreviated to DSA.
I played Schatten über Riva (Shadows over Riva) back in the day and want to re-visited it someday.
Anyway, it's nice to see another DSA game for a change, even if it's just a remake. Voted for it on the GOG wishlist, just in case that helps...

I guess we have different tastes there. I even liked the first story more than the third one, simply because the third one had zero twists and surprises in it. If you read everything and talked to everyone you pretty much know everything very early on and just had to grind missions until you finally were allowed to go where you knew you had to go. The characters amd their background confused me a fair bit as well, especially the main characters 'brother'. Took me a long time to realize that he wasn't from Hong Kong, because he spoke Chinese perfectly and acted like he was from there. I liked the straw sandal bit but most of the docks were pretty dull. Dragonfall was way better.
Yes, it had a lot of technical flaws, but at least the interface improved over time. The skill stuff was odd because the very high skill levels were there but basically unreachable within the game. Overall I liked to get to know a different roleplaying system and universe. It certainly has its charms. I think I'd rather see a fourth incarnation than this Battletech game.

Steam now has over 3,500 games for Linux, with GOG having over 700

I'm not happy about this. Multiplayer should work independent of Steam or GOG. I guess it's simply easier for devs to use the Steam infrastructure than to do their own thing.
Sure there's plenty of blame to go around.
Why does it take CD Project so long to do Galaxy for Linux? They have related job offers posted for a long time now. They likely could do something to get those developers. Pay more, allow them to work from wherever they are instead of Warsaw, anything really.
I also wonder why they apparently can't come to an agreement with some developers or publishers. Have a look at the godawful Nuclear Throne situation. And they are still selling the game, even though it's completely out of date and doesn't have a Linux version on GOG.
I don't know what's going on behind the scenes. There might be difficult situations, but they ought to be able to do something.

Quoting: kon14I never said that I did not talk about why there are more games on Steam in general. The reason most games are published on Steam is that it's the biggest platform. Many devs put their games on steam and are done with it, assuming most everyone uses steam anyway, no need to deal with any other stores. Maybe some want to release on other stores after the fact, but if they depend on Steam for multiplay or Steamworks they have a problem at this point, because releasing anywhere else just became so much more effort. Galaxy seems to be GOGs offer to aleviate this and get the games on GOG anyway. AFAIK it allows for at least multiplayer between Steam and GOG users.Quoting: Sir_Diealot...The assumption that most games are published on Steam exclusively either due to Steamworks or Galaxf missing is highly flawed.

Quoting: kon14... .I think this is mostly due to Steam interop issues, no Galaxy for Linux. In some cases the ports may just be too poor. Steam and Humble bundle don't seem to care much about that, GOG have working games, for the most part...
It's also important to note how some games are also missing linux binaries on GOG even though they technically hove been ported to linux. This is most of the times due to publishers not giving a hot damn about drm-free/gog builds or considering them unmaintainable for a niche of a niche market. GOG is not without blame since they should be pushing harder on these devs and haven't been leading by example (in regards to Galaxy) themselves either.

I loved Mech Warrior 2 back in the day, but somehow this game doesn't get my interest. Hope it turns out well anyway.
HBS is a somewhat odd studio. I liked the new Shadowrun games, but they had severe problems. It took them three games to implement acceptable inventory management. While the third game turned out best from a technical point, the story was totally obvious from the start, hence very boring and a hell of a reading exercise. Not quite sure what to make of them.
