Quoting: ShmerlAre you using Proton though? My guess is no. It's probably not that easy to actually use it outside of steam.Quoting: Sir_DiealotI'm less optimistic. Not really, since projects they use are open source and either will be upstreamed in Wine itself, or can be used as add-ons like dxvk. So you can use them with GOG games as well.
It's a win for Steam for sure. If you are buying at other platforms this has zero benefit.
I'm not a Steam user, but I've been using dxvk for a while already, and it's clearly a big breakthrough.
Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is a ridiculously good local co-op game

Yep, it's good fun. Another recommendation, for two players only, is Octodad.

It could mean fewer games will be ported, which is going to make our situation is getting worse.
I hope that at least Steam is going to put some resources into the WINE project.

How about improving AGS? That would allow at least improve the experience with Wadjet Eye games, possibly bring a few old ones over and would make it more likely for future AGS games to come to Linux.

Just checked up on my favorite game engine, Löve. Here is what one of the devs has to say: https://love2d.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=85314#p221311 [External Link]
In short: it has been soft-deprecated for years, he expects it to work for a couple more years and there are plans for a metal backend which will in part also help the development of a Vulkan or DX12 backend since they have a similar architecture.
That's a very pragmatic approach. We probably all hope for Vulkan everywhere rather than three similar yet different APIs, but there is little we can do other than to make Vulkan better.

I'm not a Paradox fan. If I look at Stellaris:
* It has Linux support.
* It is still being updated (a few years after release).
* It is only on Steam, not GOG.
* It is more a shell of a game with rather barebones factions and no background story. It's left up to modders to make it a good game.
* It has tons of DLC and you'll have a hard time even figure out what they do.
* If you buy all DLC you probably pay for two games (guess).
* If you bought every DLC when it comes out you probably paid for three games (guess).
How they handle BattleTech will be one stick to measure them by.
Will it come out on Linux?
Will it not become a DLC nightmare as they promised? They said there will only be large expansions and Paradox has nothing to say in this matter, as they are just publishing. That has changed now.

Very much looking forward to it. It's not too bad that it takes a bit longer. The game seems to be rather buggy anyway, so they'll focus on that. We'll just a get a fixed up version.
We’ve teamed up with GOG for the Ubuntu 18.04 release, we have some keys to give away

The addition of the sidechain compressor is indeed good news. I guess tons of people will use it and I'll certainly try it as well. Not sure I'm going to use it as I don't particular like the artifacts it produces. Also setting compressors up correctly is hard, even more so with a sidechain.
I'm more excited about the addition of Lua (and python) scripting support. Now if I could only find it in OBS...
EDIT: Turns out it is an Arch packaging issue (missing swig, python and luajit dependencies)

I was considering picking this up in the current sale on GOG. I didn't find an entry in the wine AppDB, but (so far) empty promises of a Linux version. Not going to buy it until it actually comes out for Linux.
