Seems that the Linux version of Supraland will not be heading to GOG (updated)

Quoting: appetrosyanJust because YOU haven't put DRM in your game, by publishing on Steam you're restricting my ability to share it. For example, I can lend a GOG game to a friend. He can play the game at the same time as I am playing something else. I can't do that on Steam.
You can do exactly that with Steam, too. It's called Family Share. Been doing that many years with my GF for some games. She can play something from my lib while I play something else. Only requirement is that both have Steam, but since that is free, it's a non-issue.
I will have to disagree on that one.

Sorry to disappoint but you can't "exactly" do that. Steam Family sharing is a huge nuissance, and is no better than sharing your credentials with someone on a different PC. For example, if you and the person you shared with decide to play the same game - one of you's kicked out. Fair but it doesn't happen on GOG.

Another example, if you have shared the library with someone and you and your friend decide to play the game, one of you will be kicked out. The only way to circumvent this is to start Steam in Offline mode, which in some cases prevents games from launching at all.

Surprisingly this post makes me Ok with it. Not because he's right, but because I don't want to give him any money for being so stupid.

If he doesn't understand that, I don't care if he brings it to GOG, I won't buy it. That's natural selection for you.

Quake II RTX to release June 6th, first 3 levels free for everyone and source code will be up too

Here's the beauty of openSource. If Id Software hadn't released the code as GPL, their current contract with AMD would make this if not impossible, then unlikely.

Another good news, is that even if RTX cards are the only currently capable of running this at 60Hz, both AMD and Nvidia non-RTX cards would be able to run this in the future.

A new and quite interesting Steam Client Beta is out, nice Linux fixes and Vulkan shader downloading

It's not at all. If you desperately try to gain marketshare by any means necessary you kind of have it coming. they knew the risks, they knew that they would alienate everyone and did it anyway.

It's more like Kanye West being put back into his place after being told that "he ain't the best".

Quoting: salamanderrakeI take that back, it just hit me, Minecraft still runs on Linux, MS still has their silly Linux on Windows stuff going, and MS doen't feel Linux as a threat, the only one that does is the Chinese gov', which owns 48% of Epic stock. The Chinese gov' can't force Linux to create backdoors into peoples software/OS as there is not central controlling body for Linux, and no for-profit company, like MS/Apple, whose finances are so dependent on sales in China that they would bend over backwards to appease the Chinese gov' just to get into that market.
WTF, the CCP has nothing to do with all of this, Tencent has no control over Epic and they have their own shop, WeGame, that they are thinking of releasing worldwide.

Also, chinese government and any other government that wants to rivalize with the US hegemony would prefer Linux over Windows since Windows is full of CIA backdoors. They don't need to spy on us, they only spy on it's own people through the internet, and that affects Linux too.
China runs mostly on Linux and M$ Шindows knockoffs (i.e. non-genuine copies) so they would be interested in more support.

Could everyone please stop giving Liam a hard time? It's not his fault that sometimes things don't work out, and some good things don't happen.

This is an uphill battle, and not having casualties is kind of ridiculous. I'm glad that the games that work, do indeed work well. There have to be some companies that deem it too difficult/too time consuming. Liam is not at fault that EAC is one of them. Also, Liam is not at fault that ignoring Linux makes sense, and is profitable, especially to companies that want to establish themselves as much as possible (i.e. the other game company).

I won't say that epicFail hadn't deserved all of the hate that they got, just most of it. Nonetheless, we should remain civilised. They didn't do this out of malice; it simply makes business sense. It's nothing personal. It's Ok not to condone their predatory tactics, but going so far as to wish their destruction and speculating about what kind of devilish party had caused them to allegedly 'pause' EAC Linux support is just not the 'nix way.

I propose, since they mentioned GNU/Linux in passing as "Other open platforms", to hereafter refer to them as the "Other videogame company". Their storefront becoming OCS - other Chinese Spyware.

On that note, why hasn't Valve done anything about this? I suppose that they don't want to give developers a price cut, they sure as hell didn't get rid of the damn asset flips, and I don't think that they're planning on doing a revolution with Half Life 3.

Their current bet - VR is really not the best idea: games don't cost a lot of money, but games in VR have a large entry barrier, so they would by definition not have a lot of things to work with.

Intel begins talking up their open source efforts for their upcoming dedicated GPU
21 Feb 2019 at 6:42 pm UTC

Finally!

Intel has had an open source graphics stack long since AMD/ATI. If they can fit into the power vacuum left by AMD in the high end, and not let Ngreedya fill it in with more overpriced rock, I’m all for it.

I’d still much rather prefer a Risc V-sequel solution, that comes from a company that never abused the FOSS licenses and has no proprietary drivers, butintel is good enough.
