Quoting: EzyRhinoI'm beginning to think that the decision Canonical made is exactly what they want. This is all speculation on my part, but I think they want to focus 100% on the enterprise (AWS, Azure, etc...) and get out of the end-user desktop market. Sad if true.yeah, that thought had crossed my mind as well

Quoting: wvstolzingyeah... specially since you can pay for all distros if you want, and make requests... start a fund to get done what you want. or you can beg adobe to spin a distro where every single filetype is proprietary, and if you miss a monthly payment you lose your life. x3Quoting: gradyvuckovicKinda off-topic but I'm somewhat terrified that the idea of a 'subscription model' OS comes so naturally to people nowadays.Quoting: keanI would even pay for it if everything works well.I'd happily sign up to that, $10/month for a Valve developed Linux OS which provides the best possible gaming experience for Linux? Hell yes, give me that.

edit: and i've gotta add, after all of the effort cannonical has put into things they only scrap after they're 90% working, this attempt to save effort is... one i would not believe a word of if this was april 1st. i'm uhh... just sayin, what entertainment.

Quoting: MicromegasInteresting twitter replies right now from OpenSUSE Chairman Richard Brown to Pierre-Loup Griffais from Valve, pitching a cooperation between Valve and OpenSUSE.one of the few distros i have no experience with, but the idea of a tumbleweed with almost-support from steam sounds nice for probably not a few gamers. hmm.. :3 this is so interesting

at first i thought that debian would surely be what they settle on, as i thought that's what steam os was based directly on; but indeed a recommendation ought to be something noob-friendly, and they know that. on that note, i also do wonder what will become of distros like pop and mint. i know mint has their "just in case" debian-based experiment... maybe this is that case? what a shakeup Owo

+1 on that real-fake wood =P'' i admit the aesthetics work on me. funny, too, as i couldn't wait for that woodgrain to disappear from consumer stuff when it was popular. damn market research

Quoting: antismokeI was eventually going to build something like this to stick in the living room anyways. I wouldn't mind dropping $400 on it, especially with that sweet wood grain. It's not like it's some locked down proprietary OS havin' console with a subscription fee tied to it. Worst case if it loses support from Atari I'll just reimage with something like GameDrift or the likes. Win/Win ;)hear hear! i almost added something about this to my last comment. don't complain about the price til you try to build out your own version from what's available on the market. i've actually done so for people (not yet myself) but this would be a sweet lil go-to form factor, open so no risks if it's on shelves, like you said.

o0o0oo =P'' first console i've been interested in for a long time. @kuhpunk it's definitely not meant for people who want to buy xbox live passes and play AAA games on PC-level hardware they're locked out of, though i'm sure there's plenty of overlap. me, and most of the guys i know are the target audience. this seems a lil like what a steam machine should have been.
also on the price, not everyone can sell hardware at a loss with a certainty of making profit from millions of sales of $80+ games

Quoting: JahimselfWell bye bye Tim Schaffer, your games were great. You supported linux, but joining the most evil forces of the universe for the futur of mankind, is a no go for me. If I was abble to get all my games from your studio refunded, I would do it right away. Good luck in your trip into hell.well i wasn't gonna put it quite that way, but... well yeah .w. i think more than a few of us feel similarly. no, ms does not love linux like we love linux

Oo0o0oo, hell, I might actually bite on this one. I like that theory for a mechanic that lets you change focus, kinda reminds me of Final Fantasy 8. The claims of not feeling stuck in a binary system are pretty big... if they manage any of this at all though, I'll be very impressed.
Quoting: GuestPerfect combo is an actual fun deep game, but with yiff too. Pun intended. There aren't enough fun good games out there which also have sex, sadly.Idk, Swift, I don't personally think these plots have to contain everything in the human *cough* experience; rather just put it there if it's solid and serves a meaningful purpose, and don't if it doesn't... wish more devs would take that approach to cast and char design...
