Quoting: nepoThe BIG problem for me is my low trust in Google - the "Google Graveyard" is full of killed Google products.
Exactly this, and this has always been the biggest reason for me not to spend any money on it.
I don't doubt their technical capabilities of pulling it off, but if this is not successful enough (and honestly, I somewhat doubt it will be, given GFNow and the similar XBox offering), this is very likely to not be around anymore in 2-3 years.

I might go for the subscription for a month or so, just out of technical curiosity, but I'll never spend any cash on specific games if that doesn't also give me the game on Steam.

It's odd how long it has taken already for someone to pick up the formula, isn't it?
The problem is that despite being a very very good game it fell flat on it's ass.
Is that conjecture or do you have a source for that ?
It's not really conjecture, more an exaggeration.

It really wasn't overly successful, but was no complete flop, either, at least according to wikipedia:

Quoting: tmtvlWith two browsers (Falkon and Firefox) open, while on other tags I have Konsole, Emacs, Okular, Kontact, Cantata, Steam, and Discord running I'm using 5661M RAM. While of course 16GB is always nice to have, it's not too much of a problem to make 8 work.
As long as you don't want to play games as well, sure.
But in your scenario, a hell of a lot of games, especially those requiring lots of heavy assets, wouldn't even run unless you close half your programs so that they get at least 4 GB.
