Also, if they were going with Android, the best route would be go with a Snapdragon or even Tegra X1 because the support for Android is really good, a lot of games already were ported to Shield TV like Doom 3 BFG, Tomb Raider and Resident Evil 5.
Besides it runs 4k UltraHD content from every streaming app availabe on the Android like Netflix, HBO GO and Amazon Prime

Quoting: elmapulI dont know the specific information why, but Android only works with intel CPUs in X86 version. You can even see that in the Android x86 page.Quoting: WJMazepasIt's not Android, nor Android or Chrome OS works with AMD CPU. And if they were using Android they would say it rather than saying its linux because to Android is more known to the general public than linuxandroid DO run on x86, i dont know why it would be compatible with AMD.

If Atari wanted something with ARM, would be better that they had used the Tegra X1 SoC that is still really strong compared to other ARMs SoCs and already have tons of games ported to it

Quoting: slaapliedjeAMD only did ARM CPUs for servers and they dropped this already.Quoting: ArdjeI think I posted earlier that there are AMD earnings listing a deal with Atari. It specifically states Radeon. Fairly certain there are no Radeon based ARMs?Quoting: XicronicNot only that, they actually specifically stated it will be an AMD APU.Quoting: TuxeeDoubtful, if they're going to offer any non-vintage-Atari games, they will need Steam support. Which necessitates x86Quoting: mahagrI really hope it'll be Ryzen based, if it is, it'll be instant buy for me. If it's using older AMD, I see no point of getting the device...What makes you think it's gonna be AMD64 architecture? More likely it will be ARM based.
AMD really doesn't have any ARM's with a decent GPU.

I dont know why is difficult to implement 1080p for everyone. Youtube can do it in both VP9 and H264

Quoting: XpanderOn Android only approved devices like the Shield TV boxes play in HD or more. The rest is locked in 480p.Quoting: slaapliedjeHa, I navigate and do that all the time with my steam controller. I lay in bed and watch Netflix, Plex, HBO, Showtime, etc. On my Linux Desktop. I currently have two 2560x1440 G-sync monitors, and yes I can generally tell 720p vs 1080p. HDCP only prevents thongs from displaying IF the program is trying to use it and it doesn't exist. With your logic, I would not be able to watch a 1080p movie that was ripped because the resolution is capped on any media. In fact, HDCP will completely black out media, not downscale it. I watch videos in 1080p on youtube all the time in Linux.. 480p looks terrible these days.Netflix is 720p capped though, you can check it when you have it windowed and press alt+ctr+shift+D
Edit: literally the only thing I have seen that requires HDCP is an officially licensed bluray player, which is why Linux will probably never have an officially licensed Bluray player.
its only 4Mbps bandwidth also. Its so in Chrome, Vivaldi and Opera. Its not the worst, can live with that but 1080p would be much better.. i have 1440p screen also
As you can see thisone is even at lower Bitrate than 4Mbps, i have seen some at 4098kbps
but its 720p like seen from the picture. Everything is in netflix. Only Edge browser gets the special deal, netflix apps get special deals with 1080p and chromecast i think has 1080p capability also.
rest of the browsers are stuck at 720p.

Maybe they should invest in make easier to port games from Windows to Linux. Make more Steam Dev Days, invest in some free online courses that are better than what already have. If more people learn about linux, Vulkan, OpenGL, SDL etc then will have more ports to linux

Quoting: TcheyI don't believe a Linux console is a solution for Linux gamers. I don't know about you, but around me, me included, all Linux users are doing much more than playing, on their PC.I agree with you. A linux console could bring people from Windows and consoles, but not linux users.
It's a workstation for video, music, 3D, development, internet, social media door, games, all together, and if there was a Linux console, they would NOT buy it or use it even for free. It would require a split between the PC and the console, while with the PC they have all in one machine.

Feral should appear and port PUBG to linux and macOS. The game still in beta, so should have plenty of time to optimize a Vulkan engine for it
What are you playing this weekend?

Valve could enable Wine on SteamOS for many DX9 games and promote Vulkan more.
If they invest in more documents, books and online classes for Vulkan, it would appear more devs having knowledge for port to linux.
Also they could invest in Feral for they being able to make more ports and promote them to more devs

Quoting: GuestBut the wine version runs better than the linux version???Quoting: 1xokDoes this mean full DX11 support? For example: Could I play then GTA V in DX11 mode?Tomb Raider 2013 works better in DX11 mode than DX9 mode with wine-staging. The game looks better with DX11. DX11 support for TR2013 has been available over 6 months.
