In 2017 i switched to Ubuntu because my desktop would run Windows 10 really bad, and i remember then looking for games with native linux support since i didnt want to mess with Wine config.
I did discover a lot of new indie games and finally played Hitman that was on my list, but good lord we are much better now.
Now my only Linux machine is the Steam Deck, but it always surprises me how many games i can run on it without issues. Hell, lots of games that i had issues on my Windows machine played just fine on Steam Deck. I remember Deadpool, Singularity and more had issues making work fine on my Windows machine, but on Steam Deck i just install and played without any issues.
Proton did made gaming a lot better

I hope that with this patent becoming invalid, and Steam Deck success, Valve considers a V2 of Steam Controller.
I never got to bought a Steam Controller and today their prices are astronomical.

This is great news. I played a little bit of the Beta and really liked, but im waiting for a improvment on the server situation because it took a long time to join a new game
Frozenbyte are now telling Linux users to use Proton, even for their older games

Just by removing the wine overhead, you should see a performance increase, but then again it varies by game, since there were games that saw a performance boost on Linux with Proton

Quoting: MohandevirI'm no specialist, but from what I read, there is also the possibility of optimizing the code for the Steam Deck to get that extra performance, in a native build, that you can't get with Proton. Am I wrong to think so?No, that is true. If we look at the Shadow of Tomb Raider port, the native version is more performant than the Proton version.

Its not good to depend on MS, but they cant change the whole development scene that quickly

Quoting: subIt would take a long time to appear DX13 exclusive games.Quoting: GuestI guess I should point out that Valve have never said anything they do is intended to lead to more native ports. Quite the opposite actually - they've officially said not to bother! It would make more sense to me to encourage devs/publisher to provide native builds and have Proton as a fallback.
So just like Google never said that Stadia would encourage native desktop GNU/Linux game development and people kind of assumed it would happen, Valve have never said it either and it probably won't happen.
This was one concern long ago about the approach VP did, but at least they supported the title running under GNU/Linux. There's not even that here, and native development (and support) is being discouraged - the result of which is this news. I can't see it ending well for GNU/Linux desktop gaming.
Best would be to establish in-house know how and awareness for nativ ports. Doesn't happen this way.
Just think Microsoft comes up with a Direct3D 13, completely incompatible and there is no such working Proton channel.
No way they could pull off something reliably working within months.

Quoting: subWell, they are working on the Switch sucessor. We dont know if is going to be a Switch Pro or a Switch 2, but it would be dumb not to use DLSS on itQuoting: kuhpunktIs the Switch bit still valid?Quoting: MohandevirWhat is making me wonder it's the fact that Microsoft and Nvidia always walked hand in hand, when it comes to gaming... What is happening?I guess they also just want to be future proof. Nvidia is working with Valve (enabling DLSS on Proton) and Nintendo on the Switch etc.
I thought that was some rumour for the Switch Pro which obviously didn't happen.

This Mediatek SoC is running 4*A76 + 4*A55. Pretty impressive to run this on that CPU. If they ever use a SoC with Cortex-X2, then the results would probably be amazing
