Inspired by Advance Wars, the new Earth vs Mars from Relic Entertainment is out now

Picked this up after reading your article and it is really good! Quite a lot of strategic depth, varied missions, and nice map design. One of those "simple to learn, hard to master" kind of games. Worked out-of-the-box on desktop Linux, but apparently limited controller support so might not be great for Steam Deck.

I made the switch to Vivaldi several years ago and never looked back. It's a great choice.

7 years later, Valve's Proton has been an incredible game-changer for Linux

It's only been 7 years?! I've gotten so used to the new normal it's hard to remember the days before everything I wanted to play was available on Linux.

Valve's commitment to Linux and open source is very much self-serving of course, they are a company with goals.
This is what keeps me up at night. I'm old enough to know all it takes is a company acquisition or change in leadership for Valve's priorities to shift and it all comes tumbling down. I hope there's enough inertia at this point that Proton and Linux gaming would survive without Valve's push. But it's much easier to imagine a scenario where Gabe is ready to retire, Microsoft's eyes light up, and the Steam Deck 3 debuts running Windows 14.

Steam Deck gets a big upgrade with SteamOS 3.7 and you can now install it on other AMD handhelds

Handhelds are great, but can this be installed on a gaming PC for a "Steam Machine" living room experience?

The new Dead Space is sadly a great big mess on Steam Deck

Hi Liam,

As a Steam Deck owner and GOL Supporter, I really appreciate all your hard work! This is the first news source I visit every morning. I've noticed lately, though, some articles like this one talk only about the Steam Deck and ignore desktop Linux entirely. Please don't forget to spare a few sentences for the desktop/laptop experience. Thanks!

Does this update also fix the freetype2 incompatibility that broke web view windows on Arch?

s&box from Facepunch 'works great' on the Steam Deck but no native Linux plans

If I spoke publicly with as much contempt for a potential customer segment as Garry did, I'd be rightly fired from my job. It's one thing to say, "We don't plan native support for Linux." It's another to thumb your nose at people who might otherwise be fans of your work for no reason whatsoever.

I bought Garry's Mod. I won't buy this even if it does work on Proton.

Control: Ultimate Edition [External Link]. Creepiest game I've played since System Shock 2. Visuals and sounds are terrifying and it runs flawlessly on Proton. Lots of memorable spaces to explore, frightening enemies, great story, and fun side missions to break things up a little. My Dark Disquiet [External Link] has been hopelessly stuck in my head, too.

When Control gets to be too intense, I take a break with The Room [External Link] series. Awesome puzzles!

Go for another Logitech F310. I've had one for a couple of years, too, and although I'm not a huge gamepad person, I do really like it. Comfortable, reliable, trouble-free on Linux, and you've no doubt developed muscle-memory on it so why not?

I've gone back to some "old" favorites this weekend like Fort Triumph [External Link]--the best turn-based tactical strategy game since XCOM in my opinion--and Overcooked 2 [External Link] because it makes me smile.

I might see how well the new Evergate [External Link] runs on Proton as well. I'm a sucker for platform puzzlers and the soundtrack sounds amazing.

What play button have you been clicking on lately?

Keep coming back to Tabletop Simulator [External Link]. It's the perfect antidote to life under quarantine. (Well, maybe there is one antidote that's better, but...) Within Tabletop Simulator, I've been playing mostly Betrayal at House on the Hill and Lords of Vegas. Both are awesome fun with a group of friends. And yes, I bought the physical games to support the creators. :-)

Otherwise, ShellShock Live [External Link] still scratches my itch for quick multiplayer combat and fun tactics.
