DOOM Eternal coming to Stadia on March 20, plus other Stadia news - a round-up

Quoting: TobyGornowI would hate a Google stadia exclusivity as much as an Epic exclusivity.
Yep, totally. Exclusivity approach is disgusting. Most games don't seem to be exclusive there though. The problem is, that many of them still don't come out for desktop Linux.

Quoting: GuestReally good news that Valve invests in Wayland now!
I hope they'll put some effort into speeding up support for adaptive sync and other Wayland based gaming scenarios that aren't supported yet.

Quoting: ThetargosAny news on multithreaded input support in Wayland yet? About the most annoying thing (for me) in modest systems (I still have and use a netbook, for simple tasks) and Xorg is deffinitely faster in such scenarios, particularily input-wise than Wayland, and reading about these issue, seems it stems from the fact that Xorg has at least the mouse input in a different thread than the window-drawing, and it does show especially under load. Good thing Valve are getting behind further wayland refinement and pushing it forward.
Wayland is a protocol. Multithreading has nothing to do with it. It's up to the compositor to use it. I.e. a proper compositor can be multithreaded, use Vulkan and etc.

I.e. some compositors could indeed be bad. It doesn't mean Wayland is, or all of them are.

Great to see bigger focus on Wayland. And if anyone worries about Nvidia - simply ditch it. They'll never play along with Linux ecosystem properly. May be in the future things will improve, when Nouveau will be unblocked and will replace the blob kernel driver.

We need to see more Stadia games coming out for desktop Linux. Keep telling developers that there is demand for them.

Quite original. Hopefully they'll make a GOG or itch.io release!

Feral Interactive are asking what you want ported to Linux again

Quoting: razing32Do not have high hopes for big AAA publishers allowing their games to be ported.
Actually, porting companies like Feral have an extra market opportunity now with big publishers. The publishers now run to invest into Stadia ports. That's the heavy lifting. Then a porting company can come and offer a deal: "we make desktop Linux port from your Stadia one, and then handle all support costs for it, getting Linux sales money in return".

The publisher isn't losing anything on that deal, possibly only gaining more positive attitude from users. And it's also a lot less work for the porting company, due heavy lifting already being done.

Quoting: PikoloStadia doesn't use SDL, so it would need some moddleware to take inputs and display on Linux. Someone would have to wire SDL up.
If they can make it work on Stadia, they should be capable of wiring up something that handles input like SDL.

Quoting: GuestThat and CD Projekt Red release their games DRM free and feral don't do no-DRM i think.
If I understand correctly, the way Feral usually work, they do the porting, and arrange to get profits only from Linux downloads.

In case of CP2077, there won't be much porting to do after Stadia work. And whether CDPR will agree to share profits in exchange for on-going support, remains to be seen. And as I said, even if they do, Feral should be ready to deal with Linux version sold on GOG.
