Some early first impressions of Google Stadia played on Linux

Quoting: BotonoskiMy current internet plan, which is there second worse options in terms of speed at 75 mbps (most days its barely half that), costs me $66.95 a month plus tax. If I wanted to remove the data cap I'd have to pay an additional $50 monthly fee.
Sounds like you need to wait for Starlink to get something decent. Paying $117 for 75 Mb/s is horrible. And ISP charging $50 extra for uncapped connection is a complete crook.

Quoting: michaldybczakHow did they make Destiny 2 run if protondb shows it as borked? Everyone says that Stadia is on Linux but it looks like there are only Linux servers. The game is somehow streamed from Windows or am I missing something?
It means Destiny 2 developers made native Linux version.

As before, I'm looking forward to Stadia pushing more developers to work with Vulkan and Linux, and speed up the demise of DirectX, Metal and GNM lock-ins. But I'm not going to use Stadia itself, unless it's for some on-line only games that are such by design, like MMORPGs and etc. Then I might consider it

Strangely, such games which are a more natural fit for Stadia, aren't even represented on the initial launch.

Warlords I + II given the DOSBox and DRM-free treatment over on GOG

Quoting: razing32Hmm , didn't a lot of games have this ?
Or am i thinking of games that came later ?
It wasn't that uncommon at that time, but it's rare to see this approach used today.

Great release! Warlords being from the time before on-line games, has an interesting multiplayer feature, where several players can take turns on the same computer. Or you can play against the computer opponents.

The sad case of Trine on Mesa and Linux in 2019
19 Nov 2019 at 10:38 pm UTC

May be there is a way to release an LD_PRELOAD hook just for the needed functions, to avoid building full blown custom Mesa?

As for Frozenbyte, basically they have no Linux developers left in the studio, according to their own words.

Path of Exile continues down the Vulkan path, with a possible port to Linux mentioned

Quoting: Avehicle7887As for the game itself, I'm more excited for this than Diablo 4. I played the first PoE a lot back in the day, was never a pro but it was fun, I still play it occasionally.
I'm waiting for gfx-rs [External Link] to enable Vulkan to DX12 and Vulkan to GNM translation, as MoltenVK does for Vulkan to Metal. That will speed up demise of the lock-in even more.

Quoting: subI wish other devs would follow that chain arguments.
The biggest fear for MS and other two remaining lock-in freaks :) And likely many will follow it now. Stadia tipped the scale.

Quoting: Beamboom... But will they get Mac support? I thought they did not use vulkan but something else they made themselves? I thought that was the entire problem with Mac and gaming nowadays?
They probably mean translation, which is good enough for most developers who aren't interested in wasting resources on Apple lock-in.

Game dev: Flax Engine is adding Linux support in an upcoming update

the team noted that Linux support is coming and development builds of Flax are already running great on Ubuntu and cloud-based solutions.
Looks like engine developers got a kick from Stadia marketing. That's good!
