Although, my first playthrough lasted all of about 5 minutes before I was thrown in jail and sent back to the main menu, which felt really quite abrupt and odd.Heh, that's classic Quest for Glory / Sierra style failure approach :)

I've never played those games, so no idea. But you can check Wine logging for errors. The name of the library is listed in those messages at the beginning of the string.
