Looks like a Linux version of Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation with Vulkan is still on the table

Nitrous developers actually worked on Vulkan API design itself (they are members of the Vulkan working group). Which is kind of ironic, given how long it took them to add Vulkan support to Ashes of the Singularity. And the game is available on GOG too by the way.

Lately, I wanted to make some tool like that myself, after realizing that POL is basically a dead project. But I'll probably stick to some basic scripts :)

Quoting: CybolicWell, to be fair, Vineyard is also GTK2. I have a feeling there are a few people running statistical Windows programs on Puppy Linux who'd be rather upset with me if I upgraded to that bloated new GTK version ;P
I don't like GTK in general. GTK2 is simply dead upstream as far as I know, and won't work with Wayland for instance. I expect some distros to start purging it in the future. Debian already plan to purge Qt 4.x for example.

I don't really like the UI of POL, especially compared to Lutris or Vineyard, and its fatal flaw for me is not being able to add already existing prefixes that I made myself (at least as far as I can tell). It tries to be a complete isolated solution a bit too much for my taste, while Lutris and Vineyard give you the flexibility to use their automation or just reuse stuff you already set up yourself.
Yeah, UI is clunky and outdated. It's stuck with GTK2 and their switch to Qt never happened. I think developers simply abandoned the whole effort.

Quoting: qptain NemoThat is super awesome. I was wondering why nobody has made something like that, just a good Wine launcher / prefix management tool.

Quoting: burningserenityThat said, it would be nice to make wrappers instead of prefixes, like WINE on Mac does, so we can be sure a version upgrade won't break configuration.
Developers can use Winelib already that way. It has a downside, you won't benefit from any performance improvements in newer Wine versions.

Quoting: StrangerHey, dev here ! Glad to see we're getting some love.
Do you plan to release your game in some DRM-free store? GOG or itch.io would be best, or even directly from your site. Thanks!

No concrete dates even for Windows release. And Linux one will happen only afterwards, which they said multiple times. So expect a few years more of waiting.

Looks impressive indeed, and with failure of Everspace to come out for Linux (hopefully not permanent), we do lack good looking space games. I hope it will be available DRM-free, I'll surely buy it then.

Quoting: STiATGave up on wine quite a while ago. I have enough to play in Linux, and last time I tried wine was more of a hassle to get a game working at all than it was worth it. I even had to create several steam-wine-prefixes because games were getting in each others way.
It's much easier to use without Steam (DRM-free games). And I indeed make a separate prefix for each game, it makes things easier to manage, not harder. Something went wrong and you messed up your settings irreparably? Just blow away the whole prefix and reinstall. Which would be too painful, if you piled up all games into one prefix. Steam makes it complicated and too bloated, since you'd need to replicate it in each prefix I suppose.
