Kingdom Come: Deliverance doesn't look like it will come to Linux any time soon

About Cry Engine. I've heard Chris Roberts mentioning, that current Linux support in it is quite poor and they basically will need to work on it to make it acceptable (and they'll be doing it implementing Vulkan backend). So probably Kingdom Come: Deliverance developers were bitten by this issue and realized they don't have resources like Star Citizen to pull it off. Yeah, too bad for backers I suppose. What they have to do however is to clearly explain what is going on, instead of giving some vague "for technical reasons". And to be fair - they should offer refunds really.

Once Start Citizen effort will break through, if Crytek aren't stupid they'll integrate Vulkan support in the engine as first class.

How do they explain this technical impossibility exactly? Cry Engine limitations?

On a side note, I expect Cry Engine to get Vulkan support with Star Citizen release.

How big is Linux gaming? Some estimates

@ricki42: Thanks for posting this! It's somewhat annoying to hear all the time that Linux gaming isn't growing or didn't change for the better. It's simply untrue and anyone who paid attention can see how much it changed in just a few recent years.

I bought it recently on GOG (when they had a discount for it for the first time), but didn't have a chance to play it yet. Still busy with first playthrough of KoTOR games :)

Not just that. They are FOSS and you can run your own instance where you want.

That's unavoidable. Compositing will be a requirement for Wayland for instance. You can do compositing all on the CPU - but it's expensive.

Valve is making games exclusive to their "platform", which is Steam, the same way Microsoft is making games exclusive to their Xbox/Windows store
If you're referring to the Source 2 engine, to my knowledge, Valve is not saying that games made using that engine cannot be sold outside of Steam; Valve is simply saying that, the Source 2 engine games must be sold in either Steam alone or Steam in addition to any other store.
I think it was about Steamworks. Steam isn't new to the lock-in game. Developers which use Steamworks and make it mandatory can't distribute their games outside of Steam. It's a nasty tactics to use developer tools for lock-in.

@Mountain Man: They can't say such thing - it would be an anti-trust violation.

Exclusivity isn't a major problem anymore. You can expect exclusive releases when publisher is also a distributor (i.e. MS publishes and then distributes the game). So just ignore such games. It totally doesn't make any sense for others to be limited to one distributor. They are losing a huge potential chunk of sales.

I sent them a message, but may be they already explained it to someone else.
