Chaos Reborn & Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition now DRM free for Linux on GOG

I don't consider multiplayer server registration to be a form of DRM really. Do you need to register on a server if you play some MMORPG? Usually you do, how else are you going to authenticate with it?

However I dislike when even casual multiplayer games (which don't have a scale of massive on-line RPG) require you to use only their dedicated servers. It's not really DRM, but rather a form of lock-in. In the past such games allowed to be launched in server mode, and players could even play it over LAN in that way.

Quoting: Avehicle7887Ehhh, not sure why devs keep making these kind of deals, if they were lacking funds I can understand that but on the other side of the coin, there are alternative ways of obtaining funds such as kickstarter.

I'm sure they've had their reasons but looking at the bigger picture here they're leaving 3 platforms dry which could mean some good profit, especially from the PS4 side.
Indeed, any exclusivity is a stupid thing for developers if they have a good game. But may be they aren't confident if their game will sell well, and prefer one time cut from those who push exclusive limitations (MS) to long term profit from maximum possible platforms and distributors. If they aren't confident in their own creation - it's already a problem anyway.

Quoting: HamishObviously the whole point of the service is to promote raw creativity, and these games do deserve their place on the service, but itch.io really does need a way to separate the cream from the crop.
On the other end is GOG, which is very curated and sometimes rejects games for their own undisclosed reasons (like Dex for example). In general, if you want an easy place to find good games - some entry barrier like GOG requires is a must, but it still can be skewed because perception of what is a good game, is to a degree subjective.

Out of my wishlist now. The game did look promising, but next time developers should choose middleware more wisely.

Response from Raze (from Larian):
GOG usually takes a day or so to create their own installers, but I don't know what their holiday schedule is.

Hopefully soon, but no one knows that except for GOG and Larian. Try asking them.

Hopefully GOG version is coming out ASAP as well. GOG Linux users however lost the chance to buy the game on major winter sale. May be Larian will celebrate the release with good discount?
