A KDE developer has thoughts on changing how Linux games work

Quoting: HunterZIf you just disable compositing, games run great in Linux. The only problem is lack of resolution switching support, which kills me in games like FTL and Gemini Rue. I've become too familiar with using xrandr! It would be better if games or Linux could just do a bilinear scale to my native resolution though, which is what the monitor ends up doing anyway.
Martin explained, that Wayland compositors work differently, and you can't disable compositing like with X.

Quoting: cheerockieUnfortunately but is very probable, that Witcher 3 will not be released on Linux in native.
I know it from a reliable source...
But is very possible for "wrapper" port (with some CD Projekt RED support) in 2016.
What source is that?

Star Wars: KOTOR 2 - this is the most sad moment of the year. I was terrified that a 10-year-old game would be the type of game that we are going to be happy for. Of course it is still good game, but it shouldn't be one of the best games in our libraries.
What does that suppose to mean? One of the best games in my library are old games. Why would you be terrified about such thing? Good games are art, and masterpieces remain masterpieces.

What do you call an AAA title? Big budget or publisher funded game? Using this term always makes things confusing.

From Cubase's comments there, it looks like Unity is going to support H.264. I'm still puzzled why not better FOSS codecs which are already production ready (like VP9 or VP8). Plus as far as I know, using H.264 / H.265 for any commercial product requires paying a license which is a huge tax on developers.

How hard is it to replace Bink with other codec, and and use corresponding decoder with ffmpeg for example? Or it's a problem with Unity not allowing such flexibility?

GOG release for backers is confirmed (can't link to exact comment there like in Kickstarter):

Anthony B.: I'm just curious if there might/could be a simultaneous release on GoG. I like humble, but I would prefer a GoG code instead (I know the final determination is easily 18 months out, just planting the idea now (is inception possible via crowdfunding comments? (should I keep nesting parentheses? (have I go- oh no, I've gone cross-eyed)))).

GregRice: @Anthony B. we’re aiming for Steam ,Humble and GoG :)

Why on earth anyone would use Bink, when there are much better FOSS codecs like VPx? And now there are also Thor and upcoming Daala.

They should ditch this Bink junk and use FOSS codecs instead.
