Great news!
Good to hear that they have some interest and think about opening Galaxy in the future (as well as acknowledge the feedback).
Indicating Wine in the system requirements is good, but I think they should make it more visible, using some icon or something.
And they use Ubuntu icon for Linux. This surely could be done in more generic fashion :)
By the way, GOG confirmed that they are waiting for performance bug fixes in the Witcher 2, that's why it's not there at launch.

OS X support was never announced by them. Cross platform can refer to their planned release for PlayStation4. So far they never said that they actually support OpenGL in their new RedEngine. So this is a good opportunity to clarify the situation. Feel free to ask your own questions in that thread.

Quoting: STiATThey still didn't say it's not coming, they just didn't announce it. The image actually suggests it will come later. They didn't say that it's coming either, therefore asking them to clarify this is a good idea (so please vote).
I'd guess Witcher 3 on a "real" Steam Machine launch.

Quoting: n30p1r4t3So it is using X.org. At least it's good they aren't trying to reinvent the wheel and make their own display server (like Ubuntu does). Hopefully they'll turn it into Wayland compositor when the drivers will make it possible.Quoting: ShmerlWhat is SteamOS compositor? Does it use Wayland in any way? It's based on xcompmgr, but has (as of a while ago) 4200 lines of additional patches.
I'm not sure, no do I think that it works with wayland [yet].
Open Source Morrowind Engine OpenMW 0.31.0 Released

How can it be close to the release if performance outside is still very poor even on high end hardware? For a game that old, the engine is nowhere near the optimized condition.

Quoting: GuestThat's exactly the point. All those are evil purposes.Quoting: ApopasI disagree. You need to release privative software if you want to include DRM, back-doors and other malware. It also makes the process of achieving a vendor lock-in easier.Quoting: BillNyeTheBlackGuyI just don't see the point. Not every program needs to be open.No program needs to be closed source.

Quoting: edoIn not sure if its a good idea,if they do that, there are going to be a lot of unnecessary forks and fragmentation, just the same issue than exist actually with the free software. And the problem with that is? I don't see any. Or you worry that for example e-mail clients are fragmented?

Quoting: GuestDesura open source client never seemed to work much better than the official one... but I guess being open source can never hurt. That's simple actually. Desura didn't work on it directly, and community was too small to develop it on par with the official client. If GOG will open theirs to begin with, they'll make sure that it works properly.
