GOG.com Are Going To Support Linux, Confirmed!

Quoting: DrMcCoyI admit, I'm surprised; I didn't expect that to happen any time soon (or at all). In fact, I'm still suspicious this is an early April Fools' joke.
I expected it to happen in 2014 (but I wasn't fully sure). So I'm very pleased it's happening.

I didn't manage to run it. It always produces:

Did it actually work for you?

Wasteland 1 The Original Classic Survival RPG Heading To Desura, DRM Free Fans Go Wild

I have a CD version with voice acting which works in ScummVM fine. Steam obviously uses something else. I use that and FM Towns version which has no voice acting but has full dialogs and close up portraits (it works in ScummVM as well).

For more details about versions, see http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/loom/loom.htm [External Link]
And here is another great article I discovered recently: http://mixnmojo.com/features/sitefeatures/LucasArts-Secret-History-Loom [External Link]

Wasteland 1 The Original Classic Survival RPG Heading To Desura, DRM Free Fans Go Wild

Quoting: Crazy PenguinSure it is DRM-Free! It's not possible to put the Steam-Stuff into an old DOS-Game :D. The "linux version" is the DOS-Game bundled with the native Linux DOSBox binaries. Which doesn't count as linux version in my book :D
I'm not sure that it's always the case. Somehow Steam managed to poison Loom for example, that it's not playable in ScummVM. At least that's what I've heard (I'm not using Steam so I can't verify that).

Yes, GOG has it for a while already: https://secure.gog.com/game/wasteland_the_classic_original [External Link]
It looks like Desura wants to catch up on older games to compete with GOG :)

Developer Sells Game On IndieGameStand DRM Free, Then Removes DRM Free Version

Interesting, the develoeprs really had no clue that for many users DRM is a deal breaker. It's good to see them educated. Thanks for pointing it out to them Glog78.

Humble Indie Bundle 11 Is Out With The Swapper, Antichamber & More

Steam keys were added often in the previous DRM-free bundles. I never used them and don't really care. But when they sell Steam only stuff - then it's bad. HB is just a Steam proxy in that case.

Humble Store Adds Euro & British Pricing With Annoying Results

This is a surprisingly dumb move. Is GOG the only sane distributor which doesn't do such crazy stuff?

I think GOG will start supporting Linux, around the same time they'll release Witcher 3 for it. It might be a while until that though.

CD Projekt RED Considering The Witcher 3 For Linux If SteamOS Takes Off

Even though I like the series, I won't buy the game until they'll release a Linux version. Or in the worst case until Wine will support DirectX 11, whichever comes first.

I don't see how SteamOS makes it any better if they want to support many distros. It's just another +1. If they want to support just one reference distro, they can do it already now (using Debian Stable for example). They don't need SteamOS for that (which uses the same Debian stable by the way).

In the past, GOG folks at least said they considered supporting Debian, Mint and for some reason Chrome OS (which is pretty weird, since stock Chrome OS does not support native applications, you need to unlock it in developer mode to be able to install native stuff).
