SteamDB now lets you filter out Steam games with AI Generation
25 Feb 2025 at 11:08 am UTC Likes: 3

Unfortunately the filter doesn't seem to work very well with demos. There seems to be some kind of metadata inconsistency 😕

For example, there are games that have no AI declaration on their Steam page, but have "aicontenttype 1" in the metadata listed on SteamDB. Also some of the games that *do* have an AI declaration, and "aicontenttype 1", are shown in SteamDB's list of demos even when the filter is set to exclude them. The specific case that tipped me off was seeing Windward Horizon's Demo in the list.

I'm a little confused, because my understanding was that this device was a replacement for putting your hand on WASD. Which would mean that the original was designed for the left hand.

So now that they're releasing a "left-handed" version... does that mean I was wrong and this was meant as a mouse replacement to be used with your dominant hand? 😕

Or does the new "left-handed" version mean it's designed for *people* who are left-handed, and who therefore will use the movemaster in their right hand. That is to say, the "left-handed" version is used in the right hand? 😖

I don't understand the hostility to this. As far as I can tell it's like complaining about food manufacturers being forced to add ingredients and nutritional information to foodstuffs. The only people who should be complaining is businesses who want to mislead their customers as to the content of their product.

Quoting: kerossinThank god for this. People actually had to look at the game and had to think if a game is appropriate for them, the horror is over!
I know you're being sarcastic, but "people actually had to look at the game" is hardly accurate. In many cases, people would have to play the entire game themselves before they know if it contains inappropriate content, or at best find someone who has (note: most game reviewers never play a game in its entirety). Not everything contained in a game is written on the back of the metaphorical box.

Which is exactly what this requirement does - forces game companies to provide a "back of the box" summary of potentially problematic content, so that people can be informed about what they'll be getting before they get it.

the developer confirmed no actual Linux version so you do need Proton.
Is this now a permitted use of the SteamOS icon in the Steam store? I've seen multiple games do this in recent months. What does Valve say the SteamOS icon is supposed to mean?

From my point of view, they're advertising something they aren't actually selling. Had I bought it, I would absolutely refund and report the game as nonfunctional and/or falsely advertised.

Remember folks: Don't buy games unless you're going to play them within the refund window.

Grab a free copy of Drawful 2 now that The Jackbox Megapicker is out

Opened the launcher, clicked the "claim" button on Drawful 2, it opened the Steam overlay, and my Steam client opened the store to buy Drawful 2 at full price. Had to go through the steam store instead, where the 100% discount got applied.

The launcher itself seems rather trash right now. It failed in two ways just doing this simple task. Not only did it try to charge me for the free game, but the Steam overlay UI wouldn't go away, even though I could interact with the launcher below it.

Quoting: Liam DaweI explained the issue to them, it actually *should* be solved for the demo now.
Confirmed! 🎉

Quoting: Liam DaweShould be fixed now, was wrongly tagged as Steam Deck only.
Unfortunately not, the behaviour remains the same for now. Even Steam Deck people were reporting having to run the demo through Proton. 😕

I've been in conversation with the dev on the Steam forums, and they're apparently a bit swamped right now, but say they'll look into it at some point because they want to get Deck Verified and whatnot.

I mentioned this in the Steam thread, but since the full version apparently works, my personal theory is it's because the demo's Windows depot (whose ID comes first numerically) isn't tagged as being Windows-specific, so Steam is just delivering that to everyone, ignoring the other depot.

See https://steamdb.info/app/2317800/depots/ [External Link] (demo) vs https://steamdb.info/app/1494560/depots/ [External Link] (full game)

But I haven't even seen the inside of Steamworks yet, so it's just a guess. 🤷

Note that the native Linux demo is currently broken, in that the wrong Steam depot is connected so that we get the Windows files instead. Classic "missing executable"! 🤦

Awesome GZDoom shooter Selaco will delist the demo (but you can still get it)

I've seen a bunch of demos that aren't representative of the final game over the years. It's a bit like leaving your old version 0.1 placeholder-art trailer in the Steam store, and not replacing it with one showcasing the wowy-zowy graphics and features of 1.0. So it's unfortunate they don't have a replacement demo, but it makes sense to remove the old one.

They could update the demo but that would take a fair amount of time away from just developing the game.
I feel like demos are kinda like platform support - ie. not something you should just poop out once and then forget about, but something that should be ingrained in your game's development workflow from the start. Every time there's a new build of the main game, there should be a new build of the demo too.

Linux share on Steam bounces back to nearly 2% for March 2024

I think the chart would tell an even more impressive story if there were a "Linux growth before Steamdeck" trend line (ie. extrapolating using only data prior to the announcement/release), and then a "Linux growth since Steamdeck" line branching off from that - to the moon!

Perhaps not supported in the graph generator used for this, but that's nothing a box of crayons couldn't fix!
