Bloober Team announce a Native Steam Deck release for Cronos: The New Dawn
2 Oct 2025 at 11:44 am UTC Likes: 3

Remember back then, what Pierre-Loup Griffais said during the announcement of the Steam Deck and Proton (like, how I remember it at least )

We do the heavy lifting with Proton so your game works on Deck. We will also help and talk about native Linux versions, but it's not the time yet.
Looks like the time for it is coming and these words are coming to fruition now! First Baldur's Gate 3, now Cronos: The New Dawn.
This is where I'm not much waiting for a sale, this is a reason for me to show my support with my wallet.

ROG Xbox Ally X and ROG Xbox Ally up for pre-order to take on the Steam Deck
26 Sep 2025 at 12:29 pm UTC Likes: 1

Erm... what a boring pre-order trailer. Showing that is runs games... oh, wow, really, what a surprise

It would have been way more interesting to see how people actually use it, hold it in their hands, especially with those gamepad handles, maybe transitioning from an XBox Controller to the Xbox Ally, how they operating it, showing the UI.

Depending on your (Linux) needs, the Rog XBox Ally (X) might be interesting if it lasts much longer than the Steam Deck. I'm wondering about eGPU support? Looks like it does have VRR support, which is really great to see and will help with battery life. E.g. I can run Fall Guys on the Ally X (2023, 40Whr) using Cachy OS and 8W TPD and VRR. With that I can play Fall Guys smoothly for about 1.5 - 2 hours. Which is not bad for the small battery. Using it with 15 TDP like the Deck does, I can't play for an hour even on the Ally.

Yet, I'm still good with the 2023 Ally, I have an eGPU for it and I can play VR (also Steam Link VR) on it using Cachy OS. That's just awesome and I can postpone any upgrades for quite a while.

Alien: Rogue Incursion Evolved Edition is Steam Deck Verified ahead of release

@posthum4n: I'm not even playing it on my main desktop with the 3070, but instead on either my gaming notebook (i9 9900k RTX 2080 mobile) or on my ROG Ally + egpu (6850m XT). There are some things to consider.
For the 2080m + Index I need to use driver 550, as async reprojection is having issues in drivers after that, even up to driver 580. But with 550 driver and even Monado instead of Steam VR async reprojection works well. I tinkered around with the ingame settings:
- Scaling 0.8 or 0.9
- Anti-Aliasing to FXAA
and the settings on the bottom of the page, where you can set the target framerate, which I have at 72.
Rest can be set to epic even, it doesn't affect the framerate much.

With these settings it's well playable for me.

As you are depending on the 580 driver for the Big Screen Beyond, you'll probably have to tinker with the settings, so it doesn't drop much below 90 FPS or the stutters might become annoying. This is only an issue with wired headsets on nVidia.

When using Steam Link VR (which requires nVidia 575 at least), stutters are no issue, as async reprojection happens in the (e.g. Quest) HMD. But that doesn't help of course with the Big Screen Beyond.

@TheRiddick: This pancake version has some improvements for the non VR gameplay, yet, basically it is the same game though.

Ah dang, haven't completed the VR version yet. Nice to see they also give the opportunity to play this game for non VR players and even (Linux powered) PC gaming handheld gamers.
I'm thinking about re-buying it even... I'd appreciate if they would give a discount for owners of the VR version though.

edit: I did :woot:

GPD WIN 5 highlights support for running Bazzite Linux
16 Sep 2025 at 9:57 am UTC

strangely designed
On the first image it totally looks like PSP.

The choice of having an external battery depends on your use case. E.g I'm indeed mostly playing my Deck plugged in and have set it to max charge 80%. If this opens up for more powerful hardware... well... it's a solution.

Not sure about the bazzite advertisment though. Cool to see it's "supported", yet if they don't offer it shipping pre-installed... that's weird. Saving some bucks on the Windows licence might be appealing to some folks.

Steam Link VR for Meta Quest on Linux now appears to work in the latest updates

In addition to @Pyretic:
  • Steam as well as Steam VR need to be on the beta branch.
  • It's not needed (and might even not work) to start Steam VR, connecting from the VR HMD via the Steam Link VR app will automatically start Steam VR on your PC.
  • For AMD Mesa 25.2.1 minimum
on Ubuntu 24.04 e.g. via kisak mesa fresh ppa [External Link], or other versions via ernstp mesa almost stable ppa [External Link]
  • For nVidia 575.64.5 minimum
Ubuntu via proprietary gpu drivers ppa [External Link] or nvidia's cuda repository [External Link]

Games that worked for me (after disabling the wlx-overlay):
  • Beat Saber
  • Synth Riders
  • Pistol Whip
  • After The Fall
  • Arizona Sunshine Remake

I also got Alien: Rogue Incursion VR to start, but when loading a save game it locked up.

Steam Link VR for Meta Quest on Linux now appears to work in the latest updates

After I disabled wlx-overlay in the autostart options of Steam VR, games started to work via Steam Link VR.
Just now I can only play like one game, after quitting the game, either Steam VR, Steam or something else locks up :dizzy:
Yet, it's so cool to see this progressing and starting to work.

So cool to see Steam Link VR finally coming. It was shortly in the beta client but got removed again in may: https://nitter.poast.org/SadlyItsBradley/status/1918820041312678099 [External Link]

It's very much in beta though. Yesterday the Quest App was completely unresponsive to any input, no matter if I purged and re-installed it. Today (I changed nothing, except sleeping) it just worked to pair my Ubuntu 24.04 VR notebook. Needs mesa 25.2.1 and/or nVidia 575.64.5. Though it does show the "empty room" (Steam VR home is disabled) and the Steam VR dashboard, no game really worked for me. After a game started, I might see its splash screen, but as soon as the game should render I'm in a black void. Opening the Steam VR dashboad does show the game too though, closing the dashboard again and I'm in limbo. Somebody mentioned the game started rendering when they toggled the dashboard, but that just crashes the game for me after a few tries.

Instead I tried WiVRn today, that has been around a bit longer, uses Monado and can be build kinda easily via Envision. As I'm a bit familiar with Monado already, have it up and running with my Valve Index, with wlx-overlay, WiVRn worked pretty well. I need to tinker around with its settings though, as compression hit hard on the visuals.

Nonetheless, having Steam Link VR now in beta is a really good sign. Looks like Steam Frame is full steam ahead!

The Lenovo Legion Go 2 launches in October - it's heavier and very pricey

Though I do enjoy using the Legion Go (2023), especially running bazzite, I made some bad experiences with their RMA policy. I can already see the new detachable controllers are also using spring loaded copper pins. On my Legion Go one of them popped out. I was able to plug it back in and it was fine. For a while. After several detaches it popped out again. I haven't used the Go much before, and when I started using it more, it happened more. As I had 4 months of warranty left, I reached out.

No luck, they claim it's a user caused damage, and they refuse to RMA it. I even reached out to the US department of Lenovo, but they just confirmed it. I've sent them a video of the issue, and yeah, they stay firm with their statement, I caused this. I have no idea how I even could have caused it. My guess is a small mistake in the manufactory that slipped through QA, as it can pass the detaching test.

They offered me to have a look at it at their repair shop. Minimum cost 53€. And if I decide to let it get fixed, minimun another 35€. Well, a new controller was 61€.

They said, I should have done RMA right after it happened the first time within 14 days after purchase. I thought I'd be nice and save them the hassle if it doesn't pop out again... but my takeaway here is, don't wait.

Here's the video I sent them (showing the device running Windows and the Legion Space software, I didn't want to give them any other reason to decline support when I run bazzite):

Mewgenics from the dev of The Binding of Isaac gets a long gameplay video and will be Steam Deck supported at release
5 Sep 2025 at 7:12 pm UTC Likes: 2

This brings me back to Indie Game: The Movie, where Edmund and Tommy were a big part of it, and I think Edmund talked about Mewgenics after the success of the movie and Super Meat Boy. Nice to see it getting a release soon.

Quite some nostaliga coming up... as back then Linux gaming was very special, with Humble Indie Bundle being a major source of native Linux games.
