This was an expected answer. Yet, I'm sure there is a way to implement a system that allows for private servers. And if it's LAN only. Via VPN we can have LAN only games also being played over the internet and yet it's not public. Sure there are games that are depending on big amount of players, like MMOs. But even here we've seen private servers (looking at e.g. WoW). So it is possible. I totally understand that servers are being shut down if the game is not viable for the developer/publisher anymore. Will it still be the same kind of fun when there are no players on servers that are build and designed for lots of players? Probably not. Does it mean this game should then be trashed? Imho not.
I still see a chance for a service/plugin/software that devs can use to implement multiplayer, gives them full control as long as they monetize their game, and then hand over control to the community or a community driven service.

If it happens you get redirected to their server inaccessibility site, re-open the original link. A refresh will stay on that sorry page.
I just hope this is real interaction, and not some kind of botting. The topic itself is worth being addressed, no matter if we pay for a game license or not. It's something worth preserving. If the publisher doesn't see any more value in their game, okay... let the community take over. Just don't trash it.
This is even a chance for a new market field, a software or plugin that allows for micro transactions, paid servers etc... and when coming to an end, flip a switch and allow for community hosted servers.

Ah, I guess the tearing in VR that got introduced with 570 got fixed in this one, right?
Or the headset tracking delay that's happening since 440 got this minor fix, right?
And for sure the asnyc reprojection issues where only needing this minor fix as well.
Oh, the ppa doesn't have this driver for any Ubuntu version prior to 25.04. Maybe it'll come with the update from 575.51 to 575.64 then.
But for now... frick, cannot test. Too bad.

Good memories... I'll go with "The Guardian Legend" as my most favorite NES game.
Contra 1 and 2 (aka Probotector in Germany) are right next to it though. And Elite, and Pirates... and Maniac Mansion.
Oh man, such good nostalgia.

Hopefully at some point multiplayer gets re-added for Ultimate Carnage. That would be really cool. It supported multiplayer via games 4 windows live back then.

The game that keeps on giving and giving.
Probably a new expedition is coming out soon too. Those expeditions bring me back to the game again and again, otherwise I don't really know what to do in NMS after finishing the quest lines.
This game is one of the shining examples of game support, after such a rough start No Man's Sky has completely changed and very much overdelivered on everything. And it still performs awesomely well on Deck.
I guess they said it somewhere, but all the updates seem to be "tests" for their new game "Light No Fire". Like, let's test new weather effects... and backport it to No Man's Sky. Or let's test fishing mechanics, and put it into No Man's Sky... etc.

Also the Steam machines were their idea of a console like living room pc... which again lead to the Steam Deck. There had been other gaming handhelds before (e.g. GPDWin), yet the Steam Deck kicked off this market.
I hope they keep doing their own devices, Apple has shown that having hardware and software bundled together from one vendor is working well for customers. And here we see Valve even opening it up for other vendors (unlike Apple) and showing that the PC is still an open platform. Not what Microsoft tries to do with locking you in to their system.
Looks like gaming is what brings Linux to the masses :woot:

I hope he's wrong with expecting that Valve does not have huge reasons to make more hardware when the experts are doing it already...Indeed. The innovation did come from Valve. The others are only making revisions. The Steam Controller was a great new kind of controller. Here they did their next revision themselves, and it became the Steam Deck. The Valve Index VR headset is still one of the best out there with it's base station tracking (Quest 3 is great too I heard, especially with the pancake lenses) and its awesome sound system, i.e. the microphone and the hovering speakers.
