Those names for the updates are just great :)
Regarding certain firmware updates (and maybe even games), I guess a dual boot install is what's preferrable. My son loves to play some games that are not available on Linux, so I decided to keep Windows on the Ally (and it was quite the hazzle to shrink the partition). Though I'm very happy about using a SteamOS like install on the Ally, there are some issue. E.g. the UI becomes slow over time or after stand by. Sometimes it also feels like IO is getting slower.
Yet it's much better to nagivate than Windows and the vendor's own solution like Armory Crate or Legion Space.
I'm wondering if Valve has some special optimisations, or if using Bazzite and Steam OS will have identical performance.
And I hope they also take into consideration to support egpus, especially the XG Mobile one (as I got one). Though they do already work, having an easy way to enable/disable would be appreciated. And then it would be awesome if VR would work too. Currently I'm not able to get VR up and running on the Ally+egpu and Bazzite.

Are these the beginnings of Deckard gaining momentum?
Yeah, Steam VR on Linux has not gotten much attention recently. Performance isn't really great and I also started to use Monado instead of Steam VR to play VR games. Recently I've only been playing Beat Saber and Pistol Whip, but those two games work much better and smoother with Monado. I can operate my Index easily with 120 Hz on Monado (a bit tricky to set the refresh rate though) while I had issues reaching constant 90 FPS with Steam VR. (i7 9900, RTX 2080)
Would be great be if the Monado devs and Valve would join forces.
There is a ProtonDB-like website for gathering user reports how well games work on Linux in VR with different software (SteamVR, Monado, ALVR, WiVRn):

ChimeraOS Linux 48 brings new hardware support for your handhelds and living room PCs

@udekmp69: I was able to use the egpu with bazzite, I just had to enable it through Windows first and then reboot. "Support" for egpus sounds to me like I would be able to do that from within ChimeraOS. Bazzite's wiki currently states that it's not fully supported: https://docs.bazzite.gg/Handheld_and_HTPC_edition/Handheld_Wiki/#egpu-support [External Link]

This one is really interesting (to me)
I was never a distro hopper, but maybe on handheld pcs I'll become one :woot:
Hm... just as I got bazzite installed on the ROG Ally

Noclip are doing a 4-part documentary on Dwarf Fortress with part 1 up now

Those game or gamedev documentaries are great. The first I saw was "Indie Game: The Movie" and found it very inspirational, then the Minecraft documentary, the DotA 2 documentary "Free To Play" and several game jams documentaries. The Noclip channel on youtube is a good entry point for those kinds of documentaries.
Unfortuantely the Minecraft one seems gone? I can't find it on youtube anymore.

Looks like the Z2 Go is quite behind the Z1 Extreme performance-wise. As I got 2 devices with a Z1 Extreme (ROG Ally, Legion Go) I'm passing on the Go S (even with Z1 Extreme), as the performance won't be much different.
Currently I'm gaining experience with Bazzite on the Ally (and there are quite minor issues), haven't installed it on the Legion Go yet. Maybe I'll even wait for Steam OS to be ready for the old Go.
The haptics/ergonomics of the Go S seem pretty good though, at least from what I can see from the pictures. The ROG Ally is too thin, after an hour my hands start aching from holding the Ally. And the Legion Go is too clunky and too heavy.
Maybe the Go S can score with good haptics/ergonomics compared to the other non-Steam Deck PC gaming handheld devices. Also nice to see the price difference a Windows license does cost.

I got the native Linux version from their website already. Hmm... wouldn't be the first game that I buy again, just to have the convenience of the Steam ecosystem
I hope Valve are watching closely with Microsoft working towards an Xbox Handheld

Microsoft does what they always do... being late to the party. And then throwing so much money at it that others can't compete anymore. They don't invent themselves, they let invent and then they buy it or copy it using their huge money montains.
Microsoft is still doing a great job priming people since school to use Windows. Yet there are more people realizing the path Microsoft has chosing with each iteration of their OS is not what they want.
E.g. in our little gaming group I've been the only one playing my games on Linux whenever possible for years. Now we are four people playing on Linux. And I didn't even have to convince them. Microsoft did that for me :woot:
Nevertheless, I do see some danger Will Robinson here. Microsoft can just burry things with their money. They can sit things out.
I've now finally installed bazzite on my ROG Ally, and though it's great, it's not as smooth and pleasant to use as Steam OS is. Now I can understand why Valve needs time to improve Steam OS to work really smooth on other devices.

Nice to see!
I'm also wondering in which regard the EOS EAC variant is different to the old EAC that needs a local dll file. Is that dll now just directly integrated into the game so a seperate file isn't needed anymore? Or does it actually mean cheat detection happens server side? If the latter, did Apex Legends have alread EOS EAC or dll EAC and would that help bringing it back to support Linux again?
We still can only officially support Windows 10 & 11, but nonetheless there might be one barrier less in that aspect.Hm, this make me wonder if this is an indirect innuendo to support Linux? They don't mean Windows 7, 8 or other predecessors, right?

The trailer gave me quite some Crysis vibes.
Story driven FPS? Nice! Coop? Nicer! Maybe Linux support (native, Proton, Deck)? Nicest!
From the past of 4A Games, I have high hopes Reburn will give Linux gamers some love too.
