Half Life: Alyx 2 Episode 1 :woot:
I hope for another VR title. HL:A was such a great game for me. Maybe with a Deckard this time?
And if it's VR, hopefully Valve will give Steam VR for Linux some love again. Currently most things do work, yet performance-, stability- and feature-wise it could use some attention. Especially async reprojection on nVidia would be great again since it broke with Steam VR 2.0
I've heard the open source alternatives to SteamVR like monado and the streaming solutions are kind of catching up well and giving good performance (I heard, haven't tried it myself yet). And Valve has supported open source projects in the past, so maybe they'll put some resources into this.

Though it wasn't feasible to do the native Linux version, it's awesome to see they keep Linux through Proton supported.
I haven't touched it in a while either, and it's a great usecase for the MoveMaster! :woot:

Quoting: sonic2kkSince you note "write" does that mean the configuration is written to the unit and it doesn't go through a 3rd party software layer? In other words if I configure it on my PC, will those key configurations carry over to other devices? That would be pretty awesome if so, and sounds like there is potential for the community to have a field day with making its own configuration software too...Correct, the configuration is saved to the device and you can attach it anywhere you want and still have the (last saved) setting active.
Quoting: sonic2kkWhelp, I'm convinced I think. Will try to hold off until payday though :grin:As Liam noticed, a little bit of getting used to it is needed, but once you got it, you don't wanna go back (if currently the 10 keys are not an issue for you, even doubling it with the double tap feature... or get also the extension when available)

A shell script is included to determine the group that's associated to the corresponding USB port. It gives you the command you have to execute as an output, this is needed on Linux in general, but works on Deck then too.

Quoting: sonic2kk- Are the switches replaceable, for longevity but also to replace them with something like MX Blues or Greens to better match a gaming keyboard?Yes, they are replaceable. It's especially made to be replaceable.
Quoting: sonic2kk- What's Wayland support like, particularly for things like macros? Maybe it's registered as a regular keyboard/mouse to the system so there aren't any concerns? Most games are XWayland but still, I have a couple of native Wayland games. It's detected as a USB keyboard, it sends keypresses, so it works with any 3rd party macro software that works with your normal keyboard too.
Quoting: sonic2kk- Anyone tried using this with the Steam Deck, particularly when docked? Could be easier to carry this around with my Steam Deck Dock than a full sized keyboard. Not sure how nicely the software would play in the Game Mode session or indeed inside GameScope.Yes, works on Deck, you need to add the user to the wheel group though, to be able to use the configurator, otherwise it doesn't have write access to the USB port.

Quoting: sonic2kk- Another comment touched on this but how's the build quality overall?I think it's awesome, maybe others can confirm (or deny). It's built for longerm use and easy to repair.
Quoting: sonic2kk- Not a fan of any hardware coming with "configuration software" - Worst case when hardware support is dropped, how likely am I to not be left with a paperweight?Imho unlikely.

@scaine you are right, double tap is available for a while now, yet the extension with 8 more buttons is on the way too.

Btw, those using OSV Advanced Settings, looks like it broke recently, probabyl with a Steam Runtime upgrade that's included in the beta. The issue is reported here [External Link], a fix is to install and set the Steam-Play-None [External Link] compatibility tool.

Steam VRPerformance-wise it was nice to have the old UI back... feature-wise not.
- Fixed an issue where the Linux VR interface would show the incorrect UI
Glad this one is fixed.

First time I hear of Maxima. Interesting!
Well, as interesting as getting EA games running on Linux can be. They are working hard on making them unavailable for us with their EA Anti Cheat solution. Currently I can still enjoy Star Wars: Squadrons and Titanfall (1+2 Servers for MP are working again) on Linux, even on Deck. I used to play the Plants vs Zombies games with my little one, no more since their Anti Cheat. I guess Valve is in talks with them already and I hope they can find a solution to make it available in general, like EAC and BattlEye and then the devs also cooperate to enable it, if not working ootb for Linux/Proton.

The game that keeps on giving...
I just finished the previous expedition, and now another one. Impressive.
The expeditions bring me back to No Man's Sky again and again, and it still works so good on Steam Deck.

Do you know if the XG Mobile egpus are working on Linux on the Ally (2023)?
19 Oct 2024 at 1:43 pm UTC
Quoting: Luke_NukemBoth the Ally 1 and Ally X have a new MCU firmware available which completely fixes the sleep issues. This is something I worked with ASUS on over the last few months to identify the root cause of. The release notes don’t mention it since Linux is “not supported”. Mario Limonciello (AMD) has also been working on an fwupd plugin for updating the MCU in Linux https://github.com/fwupd/fwupd/pull/7782# [External Link]Thank you for improving Linux on the Ally!
And I’ve been working on preparing my ally kernel driver for upstreaming. Been working on this in my free time over the last year https://github.com/flukejones/linux/commits/wip/ally/ [External Link]
