LYNE, A Minimilistic Puzzle Game Now On Steam For Linux
20 Mar 2014 at 4:13 am UTC

Quoting: DannyFeels a bit like a mobile game though.
Because it is. :P
But I agree with you - for a couple bucks, it's pretty cool, and when I unlocked the dailies, I was kind of surprised (in a good way) that they actually put that in there.

Octodad: Dadliest Catch Has sold 90K Copies, Linux Sales Info Inside
20 Mar 2014 at 4:10 am UTC

^^ It might sell more copies if it goes on sale, yes, but it's going to sell more copies on all platforms, so the Linux sales percentage likely won't budge.

I bought it day-one because it looked great, and it is. If we want more game support, we have to sometimes spend our money, not just wait for sales and bundles ALL the time.

Unreal Engine 4 Announced With Linux Support Including The Editor, Source Code Access & More!
20 Mar 2014 at 1:26 am UTC

Between this, LeadWerks, Godot, CryENGINE, and others, I don't know why anyone, big or small, looking to get into game dev would even consider Unity3D at this point.

Edit: that is to say, why dev on Windows when you can dev on Linux?

Gauntlet Action RPG From Warner Bros & Arrowhead To Launch On Linux
17 Mar 2014 at 3:10 pm UTC

I didn't like the original Gauntlet much back in my NES days, but this looks good and I'll likely buy it.

In the meantime, HammerWatch is excellent! I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for something similar.

Sharing Steam Games On Two Different Linux Distributions
16 Mar 2014 at 12:00 am UTC

Quoting: GuestI just symlinked ~/.local/share/Steam to a steam directory on another partition. I’m not actually dual booting, but this is another solution that should work…
Same here. Works great for sharing between SteamOS and another distro (was Arch, now Debian). Only caveat is the user id ownership of the installed data is 1001 for SteamOS, so I just use that on my regular distro as well, rather than change SteamOS (I want to keep it vanilla, no added repos, etc).

Unity Confirms They Have No Plans For A Linux Editor
15 Mar 2014 at 7:06 am UTC

Lame. It is definitely an issue, even if I now never plan to use it, having put my eggs in a different basket.

I suspect they'll cave, eventually. That, or they'll slowly cease to be relevant as devs migrate to other tools. If CryENGINE allows dev on Linux, I don't know why anyone would choose Unity3D, aside from the community and probably moreso the pricing (which I have not researched, I'm just assuming it's a lopsided comparison). But as stated, there are other options.

Steam Controller Update, New Design Shown
14 Mar 2014 at 8:55 pm UTC

I can't wait for this!! Definitely looks better now, and the D-pad-as-buttons thing is a great idea, I think. Avoids the problem plaguing nearly every modern non-Nintendo, non-Sony gamepad, and the entire pad is completely symmetrical, meaning it's not just dead sexy, but also lefty-friendly (I'd imagine you left-handers could even pop it open and swap the arrow and letter buttons, if you really wanted to).

CRYENGINE from Crytek Announces Official Linux Support Ahead Of GDC
11 Mar 2014 at 3:17 pm UTC

It would have been surprising had they announced this before Kickstarter projects popped up indicating this was very much an inevitability. It's still exciting, though.

Spine, 2D Skeletal Animation For Games With Linux Support
8 Mar 2014 at 12:41 am UTC

Quoting: Linux owns all?this is unneeded for unity3d+blender developers as all the plugs to do this are build in
Unity3D isn't available for Linux... So... Not exactly relevant.
