Valve updates Counter-Strike: Global Offensive for French players to deal with loot boxes

Not very cool, Valve. Lootboxes and microtransactions are harmful and manipulative anti-features and this whole X-ray thing to me just seems like Valve will put in the least possible effort into addressing any of it.

I, for one, am hoping that more regulation on this front is put in place. I'd much rather games companies like Valve had to compete by making better games at better price points, rather than by coming up with the next psychological trick to pull in order to fleece customers.

Quoting: RoosterSo I played this game once, beat it on my first playthrough and it was.. good, but not good enough that it would make me want to do a second playthrough with different character.

Do you think I'm missing out? Does the second character (the one you unlock after first time beating it) make it better? I know he makes it harder and you have to go for a different deck, but that alone doesn't sound so tempting to me.
A large part of the fun for me was specifically going through the game on various characters and decks and seeing what happens. The best part was coming up with a themed deck that could combo really well, even if it was only barely practical.

Also, IMO Ironclad is a fairly mediocre character and many of the cards seem kinda boring to me. The first and second characters have many cards that aren't necessarily strong alone but combo really nicely with each other and allow for all sorts of weird and fun builds.

Quoting: SamsaiNo, those two things are not necessarily anti-trans ("fagbag" probably still isn't nice though), but the whole anti-trans stuff happened on the Discord chat, not in in-game textures.
So what?
If people don't like what a developer has to say in their free time or don't agree with their opinion, they are free to not support this developer. I sure don't buy games from developers who I do not want to support.

But what happened here was the typical Twitter hatemob forming, demanding blood. And - even worse - the publisher/developer actually listened to that mob instead of listening to the people who bought their game and supported them.
It's quite a miracle no dev got fired over this as a pawn sacrifice - yet.
I mean, yeah, people can decide they don't want to support a developer because of their views. That's what happened, people decided they didn't want to support the game because of the comments some of the developers made, they just also happened to share with other people why they decided not to support the developers. All the things you've said here can easily be applied to the hatemob that formed when VoidPoint decided to apologize.

Also, you seem to be operating under the assumption that the people who expressed disappointment in the devs were some kind of outsiders who should be totally ignored when it comes to any complaints they might have. I was disappointed in how they handled things and I've owned a copy of Ion Fury pretty much since they released a Linux version in Early Access. Plenty of the people participating in the so-called hatemob had bought copies or at least had been considering buying it.

Quoting: Guestfagbag....a bag of cigarettes...huh?
Not even going to touch this level of argumentation. Card says moops.

Quoting: GuestNo, you are choosing to ignore me previous comments that i made were i said nothing said in the discord could be interpreted as being remotely "transphobic".
No comment in the screenshots was made about trans people. People are being incredibly disingenuous over this issue, implying things without outright quoting the "offensive speech".
If they actually tried to quote it they would delete the post before posting.
Okay. An article was posted on said Discord with the headline "World Head Organization Finally Stops Classifying Trans People as Mentally Ill", to which a presumed developer responded: "does it mean that trans people just choose to be trans and there's nothing in their heads? not sure if legit". This is the notable instance of speech deemed to be transphobic due to the implication that trans people are mentally ill. Source: https://imgur.com/noOF7V4 [External Link]

So comments were indeed made about trans people, but now we both know that and can drop this line of argumentation.

Quoting: GuestThe "ogay" word and "fagbag" is anti trans? is your head alright?
I've seen this or a similar argument in a few places now and I'm choosing to believe this is due to simple ignorance and not malicious misrepresentation of the controversy. No, those two things are not necessarily anti-trans ("fagbag" probably still isn't nice though), but the whole anti-trans stuff happened on the Discord chat, not in in-game textures.

Also, please stick to attacking arguments rather than the people making them.

Edit: Oh, and as an addendum, I quite like the game itself based on the two hours I've managed to put into it thus far. Definitely looking forward to playing it more. It seems to be wrecking me plenty on the Ultra Vicera difficulty though.

Quoting: MaathOne of their long-term goals is to implement a practical anti-cheat system. I think that this game is based on one of the Id Tech engines which has been open sourced, and so any modifications must also be open source. Anyone could just patch out the anti-cheat code.
Anyone could patch out the anti-cheat code in the client. If your anti-cheat relies on security through obscurity, you will eventually have people breaking your anti-cheat regardless of how closed source your anti-cheat code actually is, people will just need to take some more time to locate where that code is being called and turn a CALL or JUMP instruction into a NOP or something along those lines. If you want to actually combat cheating, your server needs to provide the minimum necessary data to each client, monitor that all clients are behaving within expected parameters and provide tools for users to kick or report players thought to be cheating or otherwise misbehaving.

Ion Maiden has become Ion Fury, release date announced for August 15th

Quoting: ElectricPrismRidiculous. Iron Maiden is not a fucking brand, it's a fucking torture instrument from mid-evil times.
A small correction: there is actually no evidence that iron maidens existed in the medieval times and they appeared in writing only in the 1800s. It's more likely some people just put together some iron maidens and presented them as medieval torture devices.

Quoting: ZeloxCongrats looking forward to the next 10 years to come. I also got to say, I miss gol Friday streams with samsai. New Linux releases streamad and doom 4 :P. If you read this samsai, come back :P
Samsai still streams on Friday but not on the main GOL Twitch channel.
I think they went their own seperate way as Samsai and Liam/Sin wanted to do different things on Friday.
Ooh what's his channel called, and is it still Linux related?
My profile has all the relevant links. I also usually add my streams to the GOL livestream schedule on the day they happen.

I can highly recommend the game. It doesn't look like much but it controls really well, the gameplay just works and the soundtrack fits into the game and is enjoyable to listen to. Also, I just did a 1 500 000 point run completely cold just to see how well I compared to Liam's recording. He still needs to play a bit of catch up. :P

Supergiant Games now have Bastion, Transistor and Pyre up on itch.io
3 May 2019 at 9:02 pm UTC Likes: 4

I recommend all of them. Bastion is maybe the most generic of them but the gameplay was decently executed and the art (both graphical and audio) was good. Transistor's gameplay mechanics were unique and interesting with a lot of variety. Pyre has the best characters and story of them all and the best soundtrack, but may take a little bit of time to get over the fantasy basketball aspect.
