Aquiris Game Studio ending support for their online FPS Ballistic Overkill
6 Dec 2019 at 12:17 pm UTC Likes: 8

I think they had a good run and the fact that the community servers will still be available means it'll probably remain somewhat playable for a while longer, unlike games where the whole online ecosystem is controlled by the game studio.

So, thanks for the fun times, Aquiris, and good luck to your future projects. Hopefully we'll see more from you on Linux.

Godot Engine continues advancing Vulkan support, adopts new Code of Conduct

So, the takeaways here are that bigotry is both immutable and okay and we shouldn't mind if someone kills half of the entire humanity or funds someone with similar aspirations, as long as they don't do that in our community. Cool cool.

I'll just go and say that if I was operating an open source project with any sort of community, if I know you follow a hateful ideology that aims to harm me, my community or someone else purely based on irrational prejudices, I'll kick you to the curb and not even entertain the notion that your ideology might be considered normal. Either you fix yourself or you make sure I never find it out.

Godot Engine continues advancing Vulkan support, adopts new Code of Conduct

The thing I don't understand here is that some seem to think that the set of rules in the CoC is too broad and can be used to suppress their free speech (which they do not have in private spaces such as web forums or chat rooms or Git repos etc) but "Don't be a jerk" is just perfect.

When your only rule is "Don't be a jerk", any decision made by the moderators is 100% arbitrary and dependent on who is doing the moderating. The moderator could be using the same set of criteria as the CoC to determine who is a jerk and who is not or they could be using a significantly longer list of criteria. Or they could define a jerk as a person who they just don't like.

Also, I think people are overreacting to this whole thing simply because it's called a Code of Conduct. I think if the GOL Posting Rules were called the GOL Code of Conduct the same people would begin complaining about that too.

Reminder: Update your PC info for the next round of statistics updates

The most interesting bit I noticed in the latest statistics is that this is historically the first month when an AMD GPU is the single most popular GPU on GOL. The RX 580 has been rising through the statistics quite rapidly and is now the most popular GPU in the survey at 7.83%, beating the GTX 970 (7.23%) and GTX 1060 6GB (7.73%). The overall marketshare still favours Nvidia of course (62.28% vs 32.91%) but it's good to finally see some variety in the GPU model specific rankings.

Quoting: subAlso doesn't work for me on another system with recent ArchLinux.

On which Linux distribution is this running at all?
Ubuntu/SteamOS?

And no reply so far on the support request.

That's annoying, really.
Playing now using Windows.
I'm getting more and more pragmatic. :)
It's weekend so I wouldn't expect any responses or patches anyway. They did patch the game once so hopefully they'll get the rest of the issues throughout next week.

I'm sure he'll fix this.
Apparently that's not the only bug. Me and a friend ran into a script error a few screens into the game that seems pretty much game-breaking.

So, it would seem this needs a patch before it gets going.
A patch landed and this issue seems to be gone now. Icculus seems to work quick!

Yup, totally picked it up. That trailer alone was worth the 4€, so if I can have some gameplay to go with it, that'll be a win-win for me.

Valve updates Counter-Strike: Global Offensive for French players to deal with loot boxes

Following your reasoning here, we should remove gambling laws all together, don't we? I mean, nobody is forced to go to the casino and gamble.

My only doubt with collective items (such as the FUT cards) is when I compare them with the physical trading card market. My question here is: Should we enforce stricter rules on this items or we must set the same as the physical ones?
My view is that we may as well regulate physical collectible cards and such. I don't see a benefit in such things being sold as black boxes either. The thrill aspect of opening them is practically the same as with in-game lootboxes, the harmful effects are merely mitigated by the fact you need to go more out of your way to purchase them (going to a store versus clicking a button in a game you are already playing). So, IMO, better either sell them in packages that label the contents or as individual items.
