A Story About My Uncle, A Fancy Looking First Person Platforming Adventure Looks Set For Linux

Quoting: alefWhy they are making Linux ports always after I already purchased and finished it on Windows? :(
Because you don't have the patience to wait for the Linux ports to arrive, obviously. :P

The Long Dark Survival Game Launches An Experimental Branch For Linux

Cool, I've been waiting for this game to come to Linux. I might not buy it just yet though but I will definitely keep an eye out.

GOL Game Jam Has Entered Rating Phase
26 October 2015 at 3:31 pm UTC

Quoting: EikeI didn't yet take a look at the games, but I wonder if categories like "Sound" will match well.
How about some "Creativity" or so?
"Fun"?
To me creativity and fun fall under the gameplay category. But we could change these up a bit in the next game jam so feedback is appreciated.

System Shock: Enhanced Edition Coming To Linux, Native Port
22 October 2015 at 8:21 pm UTC

Quoting: pbWouldn't it be the first native game released by Night Dive? I thought they only sell dosbox/wine/scummvm wrapped oldies.
They also did Spirits of Xanadu which was a Unity3D title.

The timing will always be bad regardless. Holidays can be surprisingly full of all kinds of stuff.

Magicka 2 Looks Like It Will Have Lower Performance On AMD Cards

I think people are overreacting here. Think about it: this dev tested on BOTH the AMD prop blob and the open driver. This alone says something about their testing methodology and I wouldn't worry about AMD not being developed on directly. I mean, this is still testing phase and they can still make changes to the engine should they find some NvidiaGL in the code. This testing here should be seen as something very positive instead of painting it as some kind of hatred towards AMD. Remember, a lot of devs won't even look at AMD and if they do, they will only look at the proprietary driver. This developer is already better than that.

Buying Linux Games From Cheap Bundle Websites & Stores, Some Important Information

Quoting: neowiz73as I see it, it really all doesn't matter right now. buy whatever you want where ever because there's a lot of things up in the air about how the trends will go. but as it stands linux users only make up a small minority of users as-is and Feral and Aspyr understand how their money works when it comes to being a niche company. they are looking at the possible future of gaming as much as the rest of the development community. i'm sure in the coming years they will reap the rewards.
The coolest thing about many of these linux games is that they will be backwards compatible for a long time, and people years from now will continue to buy these games. Since there is no shipping and manufacturing costs involved, Steam is the premiere platform to publish games on for the long term money flow and ease of distribution.
I highly disagree here. We should ensure the devs get as much money back from their investments now (provided the ports are good enough, don't support bad products) because there is absolutely no telling how big the impact of Steam Machines will end up being. If Steam Machines end up not being all that successful for a year or two, these guys might end up reconsidering their porting efforts.

The GOL Game Jam Is Really Happening Soon!
11 October 2015 at 10:01 am UTC Likes: 1

Quoting: CheesenessSuper glad to see this moving forward. Unfortunately, I don't know if I'll be able to work it into my schedule (October is a full month for me).

If anybody needs or wants any advice, I'm happy to share my experiences from working on games and participating in other game jams :)

Samsai, have you considered throwing this up on the itch.io list of jams, or are you keen to keep everything here on GOL?
I'm probably going to keep it private and share the link on GOL and associated social medias to keep it under closer control. But the next jam after this one could very well end up on the public jam list. This is sort of the practise run after all and we are all still trying to figure stuff out, so making it public to the whole itch.io space might not be that great quite yet.

Saints Row 2 & 3 Are Being Ported By Virtual Programming

I for one welcome these VP ports. They seem to be working really well on Linux despite the fact that they use wrapper technology. A good wrapper port is always better than a bad native port.
