Box64 and Box86 get more games running on Arm plus DXVK 2.0 support

Discord isn't working for me on Raspberry Pi, I'm getting "GPU process isn't usable. Goodbye."

Though the Pi GPU does indeed tend towards not being usable.

Steam Play Proton 6.3-8 out with initial BattlEye support, CEG DRM and more games

Quoting: m2mg2
Quoting: obscurenforeignJust tested a few CEG games I have (I was looking forward to Valve figuring out how to support their own DRM )
Just Cause 2: Crashes. The borderless trick mentioned in another comment didn't work for me.
Saints Row: The Third: Runs, but has this weird issue where the game pauses for a second every ~10 seconds. Not very playable as a result. :(
Duke Nukem Forever: Seems to have the SR3 freezing issue but only on the menus. Launched taking up 1/4 of my monitor for some reason. (Switching resolutions fixed this.) Gameplay is... well, it seems to run as intended. I can't call it good since the game itself isn't very good, and Proton isn't going to fix that.
What video cards are you guys using? Also, I forgot but I think I also did a couple proton tricks for Just Cause 2.
protontricks 8190 d3dx10 d3dcompiler_43 d3dcompiler_47
Radeon 5600 XT here. My profile on here should be publicly visible by now.

Thanks, that protontricks command worked! Though I admit protontricks isn't the most pleasant experience out there. (Do you think Linus Techtip would be able to figure out how to do that?)

Quoting: m2mg2If you don't want to mess with protontricks you could try just putting -dx9 in the game command options. Not sure if JC 2 has a directx9 path or not but worth a shot.
Just Cause 2 has a hard requirement of DirectX 10. In fact, it was the first game I remember ever seeing that required Windows Vista, it wouldn't run on Windows XP. Thankfully Windows 7 was out by then. I remember JC2 motivating me to switch to Windows 7 at the time. (Windows XP was still dominant when JC2 came out.)

Steam not working right on Arch Linux? It's an issue with FreeType and there's a fix

This is hardly exclusive to Arch. I've been experiencing this problem on Pop OS 21.04, though strangely only on KDE and not with Pop's Gnome variant. (Presumably this can happen on Ubuntu 21.04 as well?) Glad Steam took care of this issue, the beta fixes it!

Quoting: eldakingI'll wait a bit anyway and probably will update to 20.04 if it isn't too obnoxious to avoid snaps for most things, or if at least it works well.
sudo apt purge snapd will get rid of snaps entirely. Easy enough.
Sure, but will any default programs be removed by that - like say, the calculator? (I legit don't know what would happen to installed snaps)

And will the Ubuntu repositories contain non-snap alternatives for stuff? If they stop maintaining stuff in the repos because they now use snaps, it becomes impractical to use the distro without it. (While, presumably, other distros could still have those normally... at least for now)
Hey, thank you both for this! I had a look on my system and sure enough, not only was snapd installed but among the few snaps installed on my system was gnome-calculator. I was wondering why the hell the calculator in Ubuntu took a freaking minute to load. Went ahead and installed the calculator from apt and now it loads in less than a second like a good calculator should... oh, and also I'm removing all of snapd and REPLACING ALL THE OTHER SNAPS WITH PACKAGES THAT ACTUALLY WORK RIGHT. ...And seriously contemplating switching to like, Debian or something.
I have been running Debian Sid for pretty much decades at this point. Sure I've played with other distributions along the way, but mostly stick with Debian Sid. You CAN install snapd and flatpak if you'd like in Debian, but it doesn't try to abuse it's users and force it upon anyone.
Thanks for the advice, but my musing about switching to Debian is largely fueled by wanting to avoid snapd. Maybe flatpack's better, but frankly I don't see the use much. ("Am I so out of touch...?")
But no matter what you think of the concept, I hope we can all agree that taking a minute to load a calculator, something that could load in about a second on Windows 95, is unacceptable.

Another Steam Client Beta is out, adds the ability to force Steam Play

Quoting: obscurenforeignI don't really feel like messing with a beta right now, can anyone tell me if Saints Row: the Third works on Steam Play? I tried on Wine before but it wouldn't start, apparently because of problems with the DRM. (I didn't feel like trying to crack it.)
Nope, I just tried it with Steam Play (Proton 3.16-6 and 3.7-8) and it didn't launch. I was able to pick the D3D version but after that it just refuses to launch.
Dang, that's what it does in Wine too. (Sorry for the late reply.)

Well, if I select DX9 I can see some logos. Then it crashes.

You need to contact support for that.
Thanks. In the intervening time since my last time I managed to figure it out, (my browser wasn't displaying the support pages right) contacted support and they already changed it for me. That's pretty nice! :)

You can (if you mean the user name). At least it was possible in the past.
