Heroic has Amazon Game support. It isn't a store where you can buy specific games but subscribers of amazon prime get new games every month.
Still should be mentioned more obvious in the title

The game SourceCode is nice, but raw assets and tools for servers, level editors and documentation is also worth saving and publishing so you don't have to reverse engineer the game.

Steam runs natively on Windows AND Linux. There is no immediate need to go through the painstaking process of reverse engineering the Steam app and create an opensource client for it. (That is the required foundation for any platform/storefront that gets included in Heroic).
Heroic is the GUI for any other non-steam platform and it can create shortcuts inside Steam for its games.
Steam is a very complex target , OpenSteamClient has a long way to go as a one man project to come even remotely close to the original.

Heroic skips analytics wherever possible and the only thing that needs to be toggled is the optional referral on the gog store.
This is confined to the bare essentials to whenever it is needed. How would they know which games you have and what updates are there for a good user experience if they can't poll data from the internet?

Keeping heroic from phoning to everything (from the shops to the proton/wine repository)That part is strange.

no option to disable creepy playtime tracking. For some weird reason disabling the playtime sync is deemed sufficient. What isn't submitted can't hurt you imho.

We have https://github.com/TheSuperHackers/GeneralsGameCode [External Link] that plans to fix up the code so it compiles again and then have an extended and an original mode for the purists.

Nobody said it has to be unreal engine, nobody says it won't be optimized.
New engine technology brings support for modern hardware and new tricks.
It's not always bad to upgrade , rather the opposite.

Naah no need for unoptimized UE5 remake.I want the old classics to be suitable not only for old people with a feeling of nostalgia but also make them interesting again for new generations and a few more additional details in the interface and textures and a few more polygons on the model will go a long way to make this feel "current" again.
Just the old game updated to work great with modern systems and fps caps removed. Thats all we need.
