Steam has a Summer of Pride 2020 sale and event going on

This is why we have pride month:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stonewall_riots

QuoteToday, LGBT Pride events are held annually throughout the world toward the end of June to mark the Stonewall riots.

The Stonewall Riots marked the beginning of the LGBTQIA+ push for equal treatment, to stop the beatings and arrests by police in New York, simply for being gay.

While some progress has been made, such as the recent SCOTUS decision that established same-sex marriage as an inalienable right, and the passage of various hate and discrimination legislature, it doesn't bring back those whose lives have been taken because of bigotry and hate.

Yes. Because communism doesn't work.

<snip>

It does in Democracy 3 if you pick China, Nationalise everything, 1 yr military service, relax arms ownership, ditch the surveillance, restrict the death penalty, ensure everyone legal representation, legalise marijuana(with a 75% tax rate),nationalized childcare, nationalized secondary education, universal healthcare, universal retirement care, free press/speech, allowed vices such as gambling, cigarettes alcohol etc, but were heavily taxed(to contribute to healthcare) and set infinite re-elections with 5 year terms :D

I got re-elected for 500 years lol :D

If you pick the US and try to convert it to socialism, you get assassinated in your second or 3rd term :)

It's a fun game to play if you like political sims.

China? I think you're confusing Socialism with Communism there.

you have no idea how many Americans equate socialism and communism.....McCarthy-era propaganda lives on here... :/

Valve give a little more info on what 'Gamescope' actually does for Linux gaming
16 January 2020 at 8:09 pm UTC

Quoting: ShmerlI'm somewhat confused, why is it using XWayland unconditionally. XWayland is normally needed only for something that's stuck with X interfaces. Modern games can use SDL or whatever to work with Wayland directly, so that compositor can avoid XWayland for those cases at least?

QuoteNVIDIA would need to support accelerated Xwayland to work with Gamescope.

Quoting: SirBubblesI would love to see some wayland support from nvidia. Looks like it'll be required for team green users to get any joy out of this gamescope thing, so fingers crossed, I guess.

Quoting: GuestI wonder if Nvidia will someday support Wayland official. Afaik you can not use Wayland on the proprietary NV driver since it's tied up to XOrg ... really annoying I really wish to give Wayland a try. x.x

Maybe this will be a little push into the right direction for NV to just support Wayland x.x

To all those who are waiting for Nvidia to support Wayland, don't hold your breath. Linux users have been waiting for this for years, and Nvidia was and still is the major reason why Wayland adoption on Linux has been slow. Nvidia simply doesn't care about innovative and modern use cases. The reason it's such a mess for them is because their archaic and un-upstreamable blob can't work with the modern graphics stack, and it took them decades to even produce convoluted workarounds in attempts to fix it (and it still doesn't work!). And obviously upstream developers aren't eager to oblige such nasty attitude towards Linux.

Basically, Nvidia users have a few options:

1. If you want to stick to the blob, forget about modern use cases like Wayland.

2. Use Nouveau, but then you'll be bitten by Nvidia's sabotage of the open driver for their hardware. They refuse to allow it to reclock the GPU, making it unusable for high performance use cases like gaming. Plus it doesn't yet have Vulkan support.

3. Switch to hardware from AMD or Intel who support Linux stack properly, and always supported using modern options like Wayland.

You can of course also just wait for Nvidia to open up and upstream their driver, or to stop being jerks to Nouveau. But many have been waiting for this for decades and nothing happened. So why wait? If you care about innovation and progress of the Linux desktop, help yourself and everyone else and make sure your next GPU is not Nvidia.

I'm not holding my breath for wayland on nvidia. xorg works just fine for me with the nvidia proprietary driver.

on my laltop i have an amd radeon vega chipset. works great for gaming. but it sucks with chrome. i can't read forums here or at phoronix bacause the page turns into an awful corrupted static mess .....looks just like an analog tv channel that has no broadcasting on that channel...just a bunch of "snow"....a major inconvenience i should say. i don't get that type of behaviour with my RTX 2060 and proprietary drivers.

I'll give up nvidia and xorg when u pry them from my cold dead fingers.

Feral Interactive are asking what you want ported to Linux again
14 January 2020 at 6:15 pm UTC

1. World of Warcraft Classic
2. World of Warcraft Classic
3. World of Warcraft Classic

Why?: Linux seriously lacks a professional and polished MMORPG(i've searched for years and tried many(please don't tell me "but such and such is a good MMORPG"...no. it isn't. if it were i would be playing it and not listing WoW Classic as a wishlist item)), let alone a subscription-based one(which allows the devs to get paid and servers to be maintained, something most FOSS MMOs lack and therefore the unpolished and unprofessional look). WoW and WoW Classic run very well with WINE and more recently WINE w/ DXVK.

And apparently there is a substantial user-base who run WoW with WINE on Linux that it makes gaming news when the occasional banhammer falls upon some of those players(and ActiBlizz reinstates them once it gets sorted)(I have played WoW on wine for 12 years and have never experienced this myself). I've also met many players who "work on Linux"(ie they "use linux at work and are more akin to an MCSE and are utterly clueless when it comes to gaming on Linux).

I'm not sure how the payment model for Feral would work out but I think it would be a good way for them to start havimg some sort of monthly revenue coming in.

Anyway....that's my wishlist....probably not gonna ever happen, but i'm still gonna wishlist everytime these articles popup.

cheers all!

What have you been playing recently and what do you think about it?

I've been feeding my addiction with WoW Classic....under wine-staging with DXVK

In the multiplayer action game Foreskin Fury you get to hop around as a big wobbly penis

so it's a sword fighting game, then, is it?

The FOSS strategy game 0 A.D. seems to be coming along very nicely

Quotepigs got animated
Ooh! I've been waiting for this!
(What? I'm fond of pigs)

I'm quite fond of them myself.....without pigs, there'd be no bacon. Or Xiao Long Bao, or Cha Shao Bao, or Cha Shao Rou, or Rou Da Bao, or.....

If you can't login to World of Warcraft or WoW Classic on Linux, here's a quick fix for now
