Please make it stop - Google Chrome to be reimagined with AI

The problem with this slop being on by default, is similar to Internet Explorer or Edge being the default browser on Windows. Sure, it can be changed or turned off, but many people will leave the defaults as they are, in this case enabling Alphabet to scoop up large amounts of personal tracking data to feed their manipulative business practices.

In my opinion, turning off these AI features is not enough; we have to stop using the products, so it'll be visible in their download stats that adding AI slop to products results in a drop in their user-base.

For added context, I am not categorically against ML, LLMs or even agentic LLM frameworks, but I am very much against exploitative business practices, which seems to be main driver behind this bubble.

Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes announced and has me terribly excited

"If only you could talk to the Cylons"
Honestly though, I do dream of a more Cylon-focused game. Their grappling with their forced humanity always felt like such an interesting concept to explore.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 launches October 21 but you have to pay extra for all the content

At that price point, and with artificial boundaries on the full content, this goes directly in the "wait for the discounted GOTY edition" (or whatever it's called these days).
I've waited this long for a sequel, I can wait another year or two. Plus, by that time, it should be fully patched and word-of-mouth will let me have a better idea of what to expect following the long and troubled development cycle.

R-Type Delta: HD Boosted announced for release in November

Oh no.... they misspelled Chris Hülsbeck's name in the trailer! Regardless, I"m happy to see more Amiga style shooters get a comeback (there's also an upcoming Project-X remake that looks decent).

Fallout: Bakersfield looks like an awesome Doom total conversion with a new trailer

I hope it's more real than the Arcanum 2 trailer, posted on the same channel, just one year ago...
Well, that video is specifically tagged as "an attempt to imagine how [Arcanum 2] could look", it's not claiming to be anything more than just an art exercise.

Valve gets pressured by payment processors with a new rule for game devs and various adult games removed

Thinking about this a little more, I think a better solution would be to mark certain games as not being purchasable through specific payment providers. Let the games stay on Steam, but when you go to check out, the user could be told that their currently selected payment provider does not allow the purchase of this game, and let them pick a different one. Make it obvious who's at fault here.

Of course, this could also be an issue on the other side, when developers are receiving their money, but surely, they should also be allowed to pick a different provider?

Extremely theoretical, borderline impossible, silver-lining: Steam/Valve is big enough to potentially figure out a different solution to payment than the existing censoring payment providers.

Now, I don't see this happening as it's a huge undertaking and would probably require launching a sub-company for that specific purpose, but I would really, really like to see someone of Valve's capability (and morals) come along and push PayPal out of their spot and just be a payment processor.

The 3dSen emulator turning NES games into 3D voxel dioramas 1.0 is out now - we have keys to give away

I didn't have NES growing up, but instead spent my time with the ZX Spectrum and later the Amiga, but I went back to check out the catalogue years later and did quite like the atmosphere and gameplay of Metroid, so that'll be my pick (and I see that it's also supported by 3dSen).

ScummVM announces support for Another World (Out of This World)

Your commodore bias is showing! I had both an Atari ST and an Amiga 1020 and somehow ended up with this game on both. The ST version felt much snappier, compared to the Amiga's slightly sluggish controls.
I cannot disagree with that! I meant "lesser" in terms of technical fidelity, as the Amiga version had better quality sound and, if I'm not mistaken, better colours. I never did play it on the Atari ST, so I don't know how different it felt, but yes, the Amiga version did feel a bit sluggish. That said, so does the Anniversary Edition (to me at least), so maybe I'm just bad at the game

Currently, only the original DOS and Windows 3.1 versions are supported
Grumble, grumble... the original version is the Amiga version (though the lesser Atari ST version released at the same time).
Damn IBM-compatibles trying to snatch all the glory....
