Alienware do a pretty nice job of advertising their Steam Machine & SteamOS in this new video

It's very nice to see the video compare it directly to what it should be compared to, consoles. Good job, Alienware.

I believe last I checked it, the characters were still sprites. If I remember correctly, there was a short story to play and after playing that I decided to wait for the full release for maximum effect. Are the changes since then mostly tech or is there more narrative to try out?

I still find it annoying when trailers don't show Tux or a Linux icon in their trailer. Is it confirmed this is actually coming to Linux?

Quoting: CAPTNCAPSAny chance you could share a link to that wallpaper?
I can't find it anywhere D:
Me neither. The UFO seems to be Dreadwing the Penguin from Starbound, but nothing come up on search or image search (when perspective correcting the image).

Mathieu Comandon (of Lutris [External Link] fame) just posted a nice precompiled archive of this engine on Google+ [External Link] for anyone who has issues (or no time) compiling this! Thanks Mathieu!

Quoting: Hori[...]I'm so gonna study every bit of code when I have the time, maybe even fork it in order to implement the many ideas that I had for this game... [...]
You're going to have a hard time. As far as I can see, every bit of game logic is in a nice big decompiled assembler file and the only open source part of this is the SDL wrapper.

Quoting: MilaniumThe developer decompiled it and replaced all the legacy windowing and OS integration with something portable. A remarkable achievement. This is the reason why the game is fully implemented and only runs on 32-bit.
I just looked at the code and that does indeed seem to be the case! It looks something like a miniature Wine-implementation based on SDL2, re-implementing just the calls that NFSIISE uses. I don't know about international law (or law in general, IANAL), but this doesn't look particularly legal.
It would be very nice if it could be the basis of an official port though!

I can only find one copy available on Amazon [External Link] priced at $50, which is frankly insane considering the age of it :/

EDIT: Wow, this is not trivial to compile on Ubuntu :/ Anyone know how to cleanly install libsdl1.2-dev:i386 ?

I'll be trying to finish Alien: Isolation. That game is waaay too long for my taste, at least the past few hours have been nothing but meaningless story fluff with a very, very cheating insta-kill alien :( On two occasions it literally teleported right in front me just a few meters away from the next save-point, so I'm a bit sick of replaying the same sections over and over, but I feel I have to finish the damn thing.

Great to see that they have a proper European ISO keyboard! It's become quite the hunt these days to avoid the American miniature enter key!
