Editorial: The First Failed Kickstarter Projects Of 2015

You have to be smart when investing in a kickstarter product, and even the smartest investment can go wrong. Investment always has risks, and changing the financial backing of 1 person into the backing of thousands of people doesn't change that.
If you are a prolific user of kickstarter then you should probably get used to getting burned, whether that is a game not appearing or promised features not being implemented.
On the whole, however, crowd-funding has had a really positive impact on the games industry (amongst others), allowing games to be made that would never have seen the light of day otherwise. These are usually games made with a passion and creativity that big publishing houses have a tendency to sap from the industry.
My favourite game of 2014 was a kickstarter funded game, Wasteland 2. My most anticipated game of 2015 is another, Pillars of Eternity. I've been burned a couple of times but I still consider my investments worthwhile.

Quoting: HamishWhen you put money into a Kickstarter campaign you are investing in an idea, not securing yourself a finished product.This.

Merry Christmas everyone.
My aim for the day is to finally have my mother succumb to replacing windoze with Linux Mint 17. I think she's close, the livecd runs quicker than her current windows install.

Nice name-check at the end.
Liam, take your rightful place amongst Linux royalty (you have to build the crown yourself but it fits better than any hand-me-down).
Seriously, you make a good point. I have played a lot of great indie games that I wouldn't have played if I had perhaps had more choice. Now that choice is getting much greater, I need to try and remember those fantastic developers that have been with us for a long while.

Well. It turns out I wasn't the only person who didn't like it.
I didn't like it for the same reason as FrasierCane. The story was fine, in fact I had friends watching the game as I played it and they loved it because it was basically like a film. There just didn't seem to be very many game-play elements. It could have been a film and it would have been more enjoyable because I wouldn't have had to press any buttons.

Wow, so few distro-hoppers. That really surprises me.
I used to use xfce+Arch for gaming and found games very snappy. General ram usage was sitting at around 500mb idle. My current setup is Mint 17 (cinnamon) and I now sit at nearly 2gb idle. If you have limited ram then the benefits of a lightweight desktop for gaming are actually really noticeable. I've found it most noticeable for games in Wine as wine's limitations are exaggerated by low system resources.

I seem to be the only person in the world who didn't like Dreamfall: The longest Journey so I'm dubious as to whether I'll like this one too. I'll probably get it though, because I'm a chump

Quoting: Segata SanshiroA lot of modern website designs are difficult navigate and and generally a bit nonsensical, so I quite like GOL, it's easy to navigate and "clean". Basically this is how I think websites shouldn't look:How do you switch it to classic view on the guardian website? They both look the same to me.

and how they should look:

The one thing I would change on GOL is the way the articles are displayed, maybe have squares and the description of the article when you hover over the picture, and an easier way of seeing and categorizing the different article series, maybe with a menu bar at the top (GOL cast, Funding crowd, etc).
Looking forward to see what comes of this :)

I find the website as it is really quite well designed in terms of functionality. Whether on desktop or mobile I can read the articles clearly and I suppose that's all that really matters to me (and I should expect a lot of people). I'm not averse to the idea of a design overhaul as long as my favourite gaming website retains it's functionality.
Perhaps if there are a number of users wanting to submit ideas, we could do a bit of a poll. I'm not savvy enough to know, but is there a way to set up a section of the website to trial designs, such that you could switch between them to get a feel of how they work?
