Me waiting for Dark Souls 3 to have cloud saves...

Discord joke that it's The Year of the Linux Desktop
14 May 2026 at 10:57 am UTC

Now if Discord would make it so that Pipewire audio could be captured that would be nice. I think that might be the reason why on FF based browsers the desktop audio doesn't work.

I personally wouldn't want to use the app, but would like to use Discord in a web browser cause it's in a nice browser tab instead of a separate app.

Or maybe it's some other issue. Would need to test it out.

Nintendo 64 emulator gopher64 adds controller hotkeys and auto-reconnect

I use Mupen64-Next in Retroarch cause i can get game capture to play nicely with it when parallel is set the plugin. That way it plays with Vulkan and game capture can capture it. I just set my Retroarch to run with OpenGL in general so that the UI won't interfere with the capture.

Gopher seems to lack cropping of the image so you get black bars in top and bottom. Also it seems that you can't just do a folder for games to be picked. It seems to run in Vulkan though which is nice for game capture.

Also it seems that the CPU overclocking does not play that nicely compared to Retroarch Mupen64-Next's fullspeed setting which makes it 60fps constant.

I think i will still stay with Retroarch Mupen64-Next as it has much more verbose options.

Manjaro Linux looks like it's in trouble with the release of the "Manjaro 2.0 Manifesto"

Would suck to lose Manjaro. It's basically Arch, but with the Stable branch you can update every time when there is an update. You don't have the same sort of commodity with Arch where with updates stuff can easily break so you have to postpone updates and look info from packages a lot.

Same goes with CachyOS. There can be breakage happening on those much more easy.
Something that is Arch and postpones updates and have testing for those is much wanted IMO.

Ive been basically years with Manjaro and it has been rock solid for me. Would be sad to see it go.

KDE Plasma 6.6 released with improved accessibility, new on-screen keyboard and lots more

One thing that id really like to see is audio device disconnect to not pause video with the media controls. To have a setting there to either have that enabled or disabled.

I welcome the virtual desktop only on primary monitor. Will take it in use and it will come in handy with games that are troublesome with Alt Tab.

Mesa 26.0 is out bringing ray tracing performance improvements for AMD RADV
12 Feb 2026 at 11:52 am UTC Likes: 3

So far ray tracing games that ive tested were CP2077, RE8 and Elden Ring. With CP2077 ray tracing is bugged making some trees go all black etc. RE8 had a PCGamingWiki noted bug where performance gets constantly lower when using ray tracing. With Elden Ring i get stutters with ray tracing enabled. I wonder if this driver would help to alleviate the stutters in Elden Ring.

So far it seems that ray tracing implementations are just pretty shoddy and not worth the time. The ray traced reflections do work nicely in CP2077 where i think that the best practice is just to enable the reflections and leave everything else baked in settings.

GE-Proton 10-30 released with fixes for Arknights Endfield and the EA app

I had a crash with ProtonGE-29 with RE8. Sadly it takes three hours to have the crash. Not sure if it was NTSync also involved. Changing to Proton 10 by Valve made it work. Now that i checked the requirements to file a bug report to ProtonGE it might be bit too big of a hurdle cause id first have to test out Proton experimental first.

Also would have to test with NTSync on and off so it would probably take me like 20h or something to do a bug report. Glad that it's working with Proton 10 with video playback and all. I only used ProtonGE cause i thought that the video playback would have been broken on base Proton, but it turned out that it wasn't.

I think that with Steam the base Proton is best to be used and with Heroic ProtonGE with UMU.

Heroic Games Launcher v2.19 released adding ZOOM Platform, AppImage updates and more

Quoting: Pyrate
Quoting: MinoscerebMy use case for Lutris over Heroic is for those game setup files I find laying on the ground after they fell off a truck full of game setup files. The customizability shines better there, even if both programs are capable of the same end results eventually.
Quoting: Doktor-Mandrake
Quoting: MinoscerebI like lutris for the setup scripts for old gamss
I have almost completely switched to Heroic for no good reason other than "I like it", and I too find old setups that have fallen off of the back of the truck from time to time. You can install them fine with Heroic. It is as simple as Add Game -> Select Executable (or installer) and go.
I'm referring more to the community scripts on lutris

Take something like Quake for example, that might only include the windows version, lutris will give options to install linux source ports, or automatically apply fixes to old games. Heroic doesn't have such feature AFAIK.

Another reason I like to keep both around is because they both seem to handle controller inputs differently. I've had some games where controller doesn't register on heroic, but registers on lutris

Granted I could just add it as a nonsteam game and enable steam input, but that kind of defeats the purpose for me having drm free games not reliant on a closed platform
With Heroic with my DS4 controller i use environment variable PROTON_DISABLE_HIDRAW=1 to get my controller to work for all games. With some games like Metro Exodus though the Playstation mode is better, but then it's as easy as just removing the environment variable from the games list of env variables.

Heroic Games Launcher v2.19 released adding ZOOM Platform, AppImage updates and more

Now Heroic has a nifty feature of asking you what exe to actually use. That way i can easily start the expansions in MOHAA for example.

The 2.19 version was buggy with non working Epic games, but they very quickly pushed out an update 2.19.1 to fix the issue.

I like more of the simplistic Heroic compared to Lutris which is riddled with funky installers that sometimes work and sometimes not. For example GOG version of Cyberpunk was a pain to install in Lutris where with Heroic it was just clicks to install.

SteamOS 3.7.20 adds the ntsync driver to help improve some game performance
16 Jan 2026 at 1:54 am UTC Likes: 3

I streamed and played RE8 with Fsync. GPU got to 100C and frames were dropping in game and OBS. That was with 1440p 60fps ultra no ray tracing. So i went and enabled NTSync and was about to reproduce my dropped frames issue with OBS log, but to my surprise i couldn't get the GPU to starve even with 4k 60fps ray tracing and temps were hovering at 70C.

So either i had before some crypto miner going on or NTSync was a godsend. :D

E: It wasn't either. It was due to RE8 having bad ray tracing implementation that would make the games performance crawl over time and only way to fix that is a game reboot. Tested it first two hours and that went from 1440p ultra ray tracing to 1080p ultra without ray tracing.
