Dirk 2 Testers needed!

Quoting: "MyGameCompany, post: 2200"Yeah, I've got a note to try to make the PATH modification an option. I had added it at the request of a couple of command line users, but I guess not everyone would want that.

And thanks for the suggestions!
I hadn't noticed the edit to the .bashrc for dirk2 until reading this. I'm a command line user myself, but I would guess that's probably not safe. I miss how installers use to ask which directory to install the program in and which bin directory to put a symlink/launcher in. I guess that's not fashionable now. These days I just tend to enter full paths when I want to run a game.

In any case, the launcher link for the GUI is probably the most important thing to have these days. It will help the non-technical users until the community can get it's act together and devise a distro agnostic way to install and update software. It's a mess and not a problem you should have to solve.

It installed and level 1 worked on my system. It's a 32bit Ubuntu Studio 10.04 with a GeForce 9800 GT and the 275.19 proprietary driver.

I think the controls also felt a little better than in the first dirk.

Caster multiplayer on the way?

I liked Caster. The mechanics with the high speed and jumping was cool and I like the look and sound. With the exception of certain tribes2 mods and the RPG crossfire, I haven't gotten too much into online games. It probably because most of my friends don't play video games and I just haven't enjoyed most of crowds I've found so far.

I've been worried that there would not be much more of Caster however. I got the impression that Elecorn was selling to for too little and promising too much with the all future episode being free. Seemed like he had committed to a lot of work for not much money. I would have been happy if he'd have charged $5 per-episode or charge more and just deliver a little more often. I'd suggest he change the business model but some jerk would probably raise a stink.

Also another fun part of Caster was improving your skills. It's just too easy to max out after a single episode. It is cool to be maxed out by the end of an episode, but then there's no where to go with the next episode. It might be nice if there were more ways to improve the character in each episode. Maybe adding new abilities. But that would be difficult to keep interesting.

All the same, I would be glad to see a new episode and I don't think online play would be a bad thing these days. It would be cool to see a bunch of Casters zipping around. A high speed Caster capture the flag could be very cool.

Achron updates

Quoting: "Brandon Smith, post: 1972"Man good music! When I see the name Achron I think of those demons from DOOM, I guess those were archons though, heh.
I keep thinking it's talking about the old game Archon.

Helena the 3rd The Grande Finale

There are several games that were Wolfenstien/Doom clones, but Duke Nuke'em and Redneck Rampage (to name two) were more than clones because they each had a unique personality. Dirk is a game with a unique personality. Helena has an interesting blend of 2D & 3D platforming along with an FSP aspect to it.

They both have platforming to them, but they really are quite different. Helena & Dirk are really only going to be competing for the player's time.
