Quoting: BlooAlienGOG should learn a thing or three from them (but they likely won't)…
Alternatively, they could officially support, and contribute to, projects such as this.
If only… I'd have likely bought quite a few games from them by now if only they'd gone even that far, but nope. For the most part, Steam / Valve gets the majority of my business, either directly or via Humble Bundle / Humble Store.

Quoting: HellsBells24Might have to check it out. Prefer Heroic for the moment since I can use existing Proton and have Steam Big Picture shortcuts though
Heroic launcher is another one that's improved dramatically over it's development. Again, Epic could learn a lot from them as well… Again, unlikely they will. Too many corporate "bean-counters" with dollar signs in their eyes "stepping over dollars to pick up dimes"… They just can't grasp that the way to increase profits long-term and reliably is foster a loyal fan-base that repeat buys from you on a regular basis, rather than an angry hateful mob that will actively go to any of your competition rather than spend a single thin dime with you.

Well, that's a pretty nice sounding update. I'ma have to run download that right now. GOG should learn a thing or three from them (but they likely won't)…

Right on. It's a pretty excellent video editor. Here's wishing them great success with their fundraiser. They deserve all the support they can get.

I've only played the demo thus far, but this is one that absolutely deserves it's success. I fully intend to be adding it to my collection at some point in the near(ish) future.

343 working on Halo: The Master Chief Collection anti-cheat for Steam Deck / Linux

Personally I've had nothing but good luck with Halo: Master Chief Collection via Proton so far, in both single-player and non-EAC multiplayer co-op with friends, but I'm still quite happy to hear they're actually trying to put the finishing touches on making it "complete".

Quoting: randomgamerguy1997Time and time again people in the community say "ThAt A LiNuX BuIlD Is A ClIcK Of A BuTtON" but it's always proven to not be that simple time and time again.
I have never said that. I always try to tell "newbie" devs the unvarnished truth; That if they intend to build cross-platform at some point in the future, or even right from the start, then the best time to carefully consider their choices of cross-platform friendly "middleware" and support libraries is right from those early planning stages lest they accidentally paint themselves into a single-platform corner.

Additionally, I've actually got a couple of games in my library where a dev did "just click a button" (simply because he was asked for a Linux version) and it ended up running fine because those devs built from day one on well-known battle-tested cross-platform friendly software, so fact is that if you're doing all the right things in the first place, it can sometimes be as easy as "just click the export to Linux button". (Not always I'm 100% sure, but I know for a fact that sometimes it really is that easy.)

Quoting: elmapulif linux had an stable api/abi that would be a problem.
but linux dont have one, every time someone say: "we have retrocompatibility now! its a solved problem" a few months pass and something break again.

then we hear this promisse again.
if we cant ensure that apps writen 5 years ago run fine we can be sure that what we write today wont run in 5 years.

its much easier to target windows then let wine/proton deal with keeping this api/abi compatible to whatever new api/abi linux currently have, you solve the problem once for everyone.
Just for the fun of it I just tried to run UT 2004 that i installed 2010 on my system. I reinstalled the OS several times and even swapped hardware and it still runs out of the box when i start it. Same with other old linux games.

That being said I know Unity has issues but if devs would start to develope games properly from the start it would just run for decades with great performance and compatibility that windows could just dream of.
Exactly this… I have more than a few Linux native games in my library literal decades old that run fine to this day with little to no "tweaking" required.

The team at Bounding Box Software had been quiet for some time on their plans here, seemingly ignoring all questions about Linux for many months …
What this says to me is that they weren't thinking about anything but Windows right from the start, and that complete lack of foresight bit them in the arse. I've seen it before, and I'm sure I'll see it again.
