Canonical planning to drop 32bit support with Ubuntu 19.10 onwards

Quoting: EhvisSomehow it sounds like this announcement came late for something that is supposed to happen in 19.10. Could it be that they're just testing the waters?
non LTS releases are for testing and development, so in general 32bit support ends in 2021 and even then 18.04 will still get security updates till 2023. I don`t feel any decision could be too late for Ubuntu non LTS release.

Canonical planning to drop 32bit support with Ubuntu 19.10 onwards

Interesting bit from Wine mailing list mentioned in post:

> (probably) forever.

Make that almost all applications. It's very unusual for a program to
have a 64-bit installer, because it won't be able to control what
happens when a user runs the installer on 32-bit Windows.

In practice, the only cases where 64-bit only wine will be useful are
when 64-bit applications are packaged some other way (such as a .zip,
Steam Play, or packaging specifically for Wine) or for running Wine
builtins like msidb.
So, almost all Windows apps won`t be able to install in 64-bit wine. Looks like Canonical kinda did not think about that when made the decision, but I don`t see them changing their mind now.

And yes, I am so glad Linux Mint Debian Edition exists, hope it will become the new gaming distro for newcomers.

Quoting: 14I welcome the refreshing look.

Another thing I would like is to wish list a game I already own so that I can get notified when to buy it for a friend. :)
^^ This. The GoG version of UT2k4 stopped working a while back, and my sons still want to play it. I already own it on Steam, but I can't wishlist it to be notified when it's on sale for them.
So, the workaround would be a separate Steam account for that task only? Not convenient, though.

Quoting: cprnAny way to connect two identical ones as separate devices? They generate events with same origin (as in: both pads controlling player one).
Maybe this [External Link] will work?

Quoting: smokinglizardsMakes me think I'll stick to wired controllers for now. But prolly not. Still, I was surprised by the amount of steps :o. Shedding light is a good thing here though, maybe it'll help move things towards being a little more automagic.
There are lots of wireless controllers described here [External Link] and probably working. I personally use Steam Controller, there is an open source driver available if someone prefers open source to Steam provided driver.

Quoting: HoriI want them to fix the bug where Proton games have 0kb updates scheduled (but not autostarted) every time I open the client
It was worse before, I had every Proton game get 0b update everyday, now only officially whitelisted games get them, and not all of them, and a couple of native games sometimes, too.
The bug [External Link] is open, and got lots of attention, so they probably will fix it.

Volcanoids, a steampunk base-building survival game may come to Linux, developer testing

Not only coop, but PVP, too.
From their website:

Is Volcanoids going to be multiplayer?

Yes, PVP and Cooperative multiplayer will come during Early Access. Check out our feature roadmap on Trello to see what other features are coming:

Have graphical distortions in Unity games with NVIDIA? Here's a workaround

For those using Steam and unfamiliar with how launch options work there, you need to go to game`s Properties - Set launch options and put -force-vulkan there.

Edit: sorry, fixed my comment.

Quoting: mirohitman 2 of course, in my opinion it is a shame that it was not a day1 simultaneous release.
I guess the denuvo copy protection details prevented management from even considering a port until some time has passed.
I agree that is probably what happened, although management, if they would ask someone else, would have been told that Linux executable can not be used to play on Windows.
