Quoting: ChronariusWhich features are you missing in the Java Edition, and do you have a source for the phase out?

Hmmm... I can get the Windows 10 Bedrock Edition for free. Anyone tried it on Linux?
Cross-platform multiplayer isn't working in Java edition too. Where did you get the bedrock edition for free? I know it's installed in some Win 10 installations, but I think it is just demo version and you still need to pay to get the full version.
Cross-platform works pretty fine with Java Edition too. I can play together with friends from MacOS and Windows. Even with one lunatic which runs it on Solaris 11 xD. What doesn't work is playing together with between Java & Badrock Editions.

The free version for owner of the Java Edition is available here:

I'm just wondering if I still can play the Java Edition afterwards. Might test this with one of my helper/bot accounts first :)

Quoting: mahagrI was looking into buying Java edition, but saw that it doesn't have all the features and that they want to phase it out -- so ended up using Android version in my Linux box. It works just fine, except of I've not been able to get the sound to work even if I have the needed x86 libraries installed.

Quoting: scaineBased on my own experience then, I suspect that the vast, vast majority of support issues are logged by Linux users who are using any distro that isn't Ubuntu. Because, honestly, what else can it be??

Or am I somehow magically blessed with this near-perfect experience?
Exactly! This is my experience as well. Ubuntu has become the standard for gaming on Linux.

Quoting: ChronariusOnce again, how does he get his numbers? Which sales count for Linux? Which for Windows?
Steam gives you those figures. Whatever platform the game is played on attributes the sale. If there's no playtime in the first two weeks, the platform of sale is used for attribution, I think? Need to be careful with that one though, as the default sale platform for attribution is "Windows", so if the game is bought on Android or Steam Play, then not played, I think you end up counting as a Windows sale.
Yes, I know. That is what we speculate from some comments of game developers. As we know the algorithm how Valve's creates these numbers from Steam is flawed. As far I know Humble Bundle counts also towards Windows. Wasn't there a statement from Aspyr/Feral about this? What about other stores? Sorry, but there is still more then enough room for wrong numbers.

Seems that the Linux version of Supraland will not be heading to GOG (updated)

Quoting: x_wingThere are facts and what you like to understand.
All you showed me is a "may be". I showed you explicit statement, that says that account is required. No account - no [legally usable] backups. So please, let's not repeat this all over, unless you have other sources.
Which is not DRM! If I copy a game directory or make backup how I see fit then this ok. But if I pass it on to a friend then it is copyright violation. Oh, and this is not up to Valve to decide. It's up to the Developer/Publisher. But still this is NOT DRM!

Quoting: x_wingYes, that's definitely a problem if Steam cease to exist... and if the user agreement has any value in that case (or if I decide to "follow the law").
I pointed it out above. Being able to use what you bought after the store closes down is a major part of DRM-free purchase. So if Steam doesn't fit that condition, it's not DRM-free for me.
Well, then you don't understand what DRM really is at all!

Quoting: F.UltraAnd this is the DRM part of it all, DRM puts a technical limit on how you can use a piece of software and not a legal one.
Here we have what DRM is! A "technical" limitation, e.g. Copy protection! That is why it is called "DIGITAL".

Quoting: appetrosyanJust because YOU haven't put DRM in your game, by publishing on Steam you're restricting my ability to share it. For example, I can lend a GOG game to a friend. He can play the game at the same time as I am playing something else. I can't do that on Steam.
No, you not allowed to share a game from GOG! Not in a legal way!
DRM-Free doesn't mean that it is Copyright Free!

Quote from GOG: Can I share games with others?
Your account and games are for your personal use only. If you want to share them, you can always buy a gift for that person. The DRM-free nature of our service means that we trust you that this will not be abused.

On the other hand you can share games legaly on Steam with sharing your library to Friends/Family. Also you can can share it in your-not-so-legal-way by just copying the game directory.

[quote=Guest]If it’s on Steam then it’s not DRM-free, because it requires Steam.

Sorry, for being so blunt: B U L L S H I T ! ! !

The game dosn't require Steam! It runs perfectly without it!

If you consider the need of the Steam Client for downloading the game as DRM then GOG is also not DRM-free! As it requieres either a Browser or the Galaxy client plus an account.

Anyhow it is not DRM in both cases. DRM measures control "how" you can use a "digital product", but NOT "how" you acquire and download an digital product.

Quoting: GuestThey have a discount on Helium Rain too. ^_^
It is 50% off on Steam for the next 20 hours :)

But what I don't understand. What makes Helium Rain so special?
If I have Avorion, Everspace, Pulsar - Lost Colony, Celestial Command and others already.

Why Helium Rain?
