Steam Link hardware officially walks the plank, there's an app for that

Has anyone had any issues with the video freezing when streaming a proton game from a Linux host to another device? Audio and input continue to work but the video steam freezes when focused on some proton games.
I opened a ticket with valve but was curious if any of you had that issue. Its a shame cause it makes my steam link far less useful.

Valve's card game Artifact is running very well on Linux, releasing next week

People act like there are cheap card games it there. Sure there are some that you can substitute your time for cards, but I'd rather have the option to pay. TBH I could have the most expensive deck out there and still lose. As long as the barrier to competitive play is relatively low then I see no legitimate reason to complain.

Quoting: TheSHEEEPYa but MTG arena has its own problems. Ever heard of the fifth card problem? In arena if you have most of the cards and you spend money buying packs you're pretty much just throwing money away.Quoting: EhvisSounds a lot like MtG Arena, except that Arena at least allows you to purchase booster packs with earnable in-game currency.Quoting: ajgpCan you buy booster packs with any sort of ingame currency earned from playing? No, but you can win them by playing games with "event tickets". And you can also win back your event ticket with those. So if you're really good you can have an endless supply, if you're really bad you get nothing. Or somewhere in between of course.

I think this game looks sweet. I've always liked the look and feel of Dota but I hate mobas so I've never been able to enjoy it. As someone who's played magic quite a bit, I'm really looking forward to playing.
I think a lot of the flack it has gotten has been unwarranted. People are used to paying small amounts of money for video games relative to how many hours they get out of it. I'd be upset if we didn't already have expensive card games that set the precedent. As long as it's cheaper than MTG then you won't hear me complain.

Why do so many people want ports of games that already work in proton? I mean I understand you all want native ports, but why not target games that dont already work in proton as to expand the Linux game catalog? I mean is it really worth getting hairworks to work in the Witcher 3 to request it?
I'm just interested in your perspective. This isnt meant to be hostile, but meant as an open, friendly discussion.

Tbh I think Feral should focus hard on trying to port multiplayer games. Thats the biggest area that Proton is lacking and one of the biggest dealbreakers with people trying to switch from windows. If you cant play with your friends then they are way less likely to stay on the Linux side of the fence.
So Feral, look at the top games played on steam and port the ones that dont work with proton. Often times its very hard to be proactive with multiplayer games because its almost impossible to tell which ones are going to be a hit or not until they are, but regardless we appreciate your work guys!

Valve adds the new Steam Chat into Big Picture Mode

Quoting: MohandevirIn this case, absolutely not. Anyone who has any experience with UI/UX or even has any kind of an eye for aesthetics will tell you that the current chat implementation does not maintain any uniformity or fluidity. I really hope that this is temporary and isn't a sign that theyve given up on improving BPMQuoting: jardonYa it looks absolutely horrendous and screams laziness. I hope they just did that so that its usable until the next big picture update. It will make me really sad if this is indicative of Valve bailing on BPMWithout bailing out on BPM... Couldn't it be possible, with good screen scaling, to have a controller friendly UI that looks a lot more like the classic desktop client. In fact, couldn't be the same UI on both?

I remember 7 years ago when I was in China I was super stoked talking with students over there. One of the friends that I made was into computers and I was talking with him about Linux and why I thought it was better. But when I said it was free he scoffed and said that they don't pay for windows anyways. I think in many Asian countries piracy is a commonplace. I mean seriously you could walk around to shops and buy pirated movies, games, and software. You could go to shops and buy counterfeit hardware from businesses. Things that would get you arrested and sued in a matter of minutes in North America. So maybe the key to getting Asian on board for Linux is actually Microsoft making their activation DRM harder to crack?
We need more than just Valve. Sure if they had actually succeeded with a steam machine (gd if they had just subsidised a $400 steam machine with good specs, done an E3 event, and had exlusives we wouldn't be having this discussion) we'd have Linux hardware out of the box and in people's hands. If they can't get them on the shelves at Walmart and have good enough advertising then we need another tech company to come help make the push.
Quoting: KimyrielleI don't understand why not more people are switching to LinuxI don't think that even having 90% of games is enough. One of my good friends and co-worker switched to Linux a couple of months ago. He's been pretty happy getting by with a Lutris and Steam to play most things. But he was telling me the other day that he was gonna go back to Windows cause he wants to play the new call of duty. I think that's the problem. Linux NEEDS the must-have titles to be considered viable as a gaming OS. Sure Valve is on board with that but they're about it. A lot of studios don't care or don't even make good ports. And let's not forget Bethesda, Blizzard, Activision, and EA that are mostly just greedy companies that want to save 30% at the customers expense. Sure Lutris helps but not always and probably not on launch day.

Regardless I appreciate all of the help! It really is aggravating that the controllers always work flawlessly with BPM but rarely a game. To get supermeatboy to work I had to map out the keyboard bindings to a steam controller which is less than ideal.

Quoting: ageresClose but no cigar on that one I'm afraid. It was a good thought though. I've noticed that when plugging in a controller it looks as if its detecting it on multiple paths but in the end it still only registers one controller based off of the output.Quoting: jardonAm I the only one that hasnt gotten a controller to work in any proton game? In general my controller(s) working is hit or miss. I've tried 360 controllers, PS4, and Steam controllers.Try to launch Steam in Big Picture Mode. Prey (the new one) recognizes my Steam controller (but no others) only if launched from BPM. I have no problem with controllers in other games though.

I'm also using the distro version of steam so I'm not sure what the issue is here. I find it funny that it seems to be working better on Arch in some scenarios haha. Is it too much to ask to play Dark Souls again? I need some punishment.Quoting: jardonAm I the only one that hasnt gotten a controller to work in any proton game?i can confirm that CSGO crash if a joystick is plugged, it was working previously when the game had the old UI.
i tested super meat boy, chivalry, kotor 2, the last remnant with an official Xbox 360 wired controller and they all works fine.
i am not using the steam runtime libs but using those of the distro.
Quoting: tuubiCSGO isn't running on Proton/Steam Play so that's a separate issue.I get that but I included it in case the problem isnt just with proton.
Quoting: tmtvlI had difficulties getting a controller to work properly with DSPtDE, but using a PS3 controller with xboxdrv worked. If you've tried xboxdrv and it didn't help I can't really help you. Maybe antimicro can help, although it will be janky as all get out.I guess the problem I have with that is that Valve says that all controller that work in steam should work in a proton game. I dont really mind the troubleshooting, but others probably will after hearing such a statement. If you really want people to switch (such as my brother) you need to have whitelisted games work 100%. There was nothing in their troubleshooting on the announcement that was related to controllers.
