I'm very interested in the VR technology but not at those prices. Also I have a cheap gaming box so.... let's see what happens in the upcoming years.

Quoting: TheBossMy PC was nearly 3K in total. Doesn't mean I want to buy a VR headset which is currently very limited for Linux.I understand, but you don't like VR headsets to begin with.
Quoting: HalifaxAgreed, I think anyone who visits this site is more waiting on the HTC Vive... Pre, now?I predict the Vive is going to cost even more than the Rift: custom motion controllers, better displays, a front facing camera ...

Quoting: EikeDidn't meet any such problemIt must be a problem with Ubuntu then. But judging from steam forums I'm not alone and Valve games are the only ones I have sound problems with.

Every single Valve game has problems with sound under Linux. I had several problems like infinite loops, hiccups, and cracklings with Portal2, L4D2 and CS:GO.
I wonder if they ever played the games they ported to their own operating system (steamos)...

This is the worst idea ever. For what, to gain a couple of FPS, at best?

Quoting: Guest* It's a 16:10 resolution, which is a bit odd. It's likely the display's resolution of the developer who did the benchmarks. Developers tend to value vertical space, hence the 16:10 ratio. Please, don't see conspiracies where there are none... ;)

D3D was substantially worse than OpenGL until DX8 came out. Then things changed forever and D3D won the battle.
Also, the last advocate of OpenGL in the gaming world, John Carmack, is not in the industry any more.

Quoting: CreakOpenGL is not a bad API. A few years ago, when it was OpenGL 3.3, it was largely better than DirectXI've read a very interesting and thorough history of D3D vs OpenGL, from the early '90s till today, on StackExchange:

Quoting: Creakthe skilled people went on the Microsoft side. That means that any tutorial or training now are made for DX, not for OpenGL. So it's more difficult now to write efficient OpenGL code, but completely doable. That's true and is a very big problem. Documentation and programmers know how is orders of magnitude more on the DX side.
