Fallout 4 is getting a fresh update and will be Steam Deck Verified
13 Apr 2024 at 10:15 am UTC

After so many years, mod authors have moved on and most if not all of them will not bother coming back and updating their mods to be compatible with this new update. So, as FO4 is a joke of a game without mods (and even then it's debatable), this update is the opposite of nice.

On the other hand, the target audience of FO4 is mostly people who probably don't care about mods (the console crowd), and people who mod can always skip the update, so why not I guess. At least we're getting Steam Deck verification as a bonus.

Quoting: maddovrAmazing news and everything, but dear Sony, we want Bloodborne.
Quoting: suchWasn't there a recent comment from Miyazaki saying doing anything with Bloodborne requires FromSoft cooperating with Sony? That, and the recent Elden Ring buyout from Namco seems to strongly suggest that FromSoft simply wants to focus on a property they have more (as of now: exclusive) ownership over.
I wasn't aware of that Miyazaki comment, but it's really vague at best, and the fact is, Bloodborne was released in 2025 2015, so if Sony intend to make a port for PS5 and/or PC, the best time to do it would probably be next year as a 10th anniversary edition.

EDIT: I forgot to add, Ghost of Tsushima on PC, yaaay, that's an insta-buy!!!!!!!1one

Goddammit, why is it so hard for people to be kind to each other?
Nice joke. Why are you rude now? Stop being a morale apostle if you can't uphold your own standards.
What's this, a schoolyard debate? This is not me being rude, this is me being exasperated by your own rudeness.

Quoting: poiuzI still don't see my initial post as being rude.
And that's the real issue here. You don't see it because you actually don't have a clue about what "being rude" actually means, and what it feels like to those on the receiving end of uncalled-for rudeness. I think you're overdue for some serious social reeducation.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyGosh, read what you said, and think about it.
It doesn't change how many times I read it. Do you think it's rude to call you out on your false statements about something you (admitted) have no knowledge about?
Okay, I'll step in here. You were rude in presenting Purple Library Guy's argument as if they were claiming to post fact and you had step in to disprove them. What actually happened, is that you were both speculating, but you, poiuz, chose to present yourself as morally superior and more factually correct - which is rude, since you didn't have any basis for it and there was no need to be confrontational about it.
I'll also step in to add that no, @poiuz wasn't rude just because they too were only speculating after all, or because they chose to falsely present themselves as morally superior and factually correct, or because they didn't have any basis for it - all of that is absolutely true, of course; but the fact is that, even if there were a basis for what @poiuz said, the way they chose to express their opinion would still be rude as fscking hell.

The future has arrived - KDE Plasma 6 desktop released

Quoting: StalePopcornI'm hoping there's some way to have X11 as a backup as, while I always use Wayland, being able to log in with an X11 session really saved my ass after an update. Other than that, I'm stoked!
There is still an official KDE X11 session just like before, changing the default session (distro's choice) or changing the development focus and declaring the X11 parts as essentially feature-frozen (KDE's choice) doesn't mean the packages themselves are going away, at worst you'll simply have to install them manually (e.g. this will be the case for Fedora 40 AFAIU).

OT: Many kudos for the new release, it's been a tough year to endure for us impatient people!

I still remember how just a couple of years ago, KDE's Wayland support was still a relative bugfest and people considered GNOME & Mutter as the pinnacle of Wayland development. How things can change :)

Heroic Games Launcher v2.13 brings GOG support improvements

Quoting: NociferSure, wishful thinking, but wait a minute... an official partnership with GOG for buying games through Heroic?
You can already buy GOG games through Heroic via the Stores section. Clicking on GOG Store opens the GOG website where you'll be logged in with the same credentials as in the rest of the app.
From the 2.13 changelog:

We also started a partnership with GOG and now every game you buy from the GOG store inside Heroic will give us a commission, so it is another way of supporting the project. :)
It's not just about being able to log into GOG and buy games via the embedded browser, it's about GOG forming a partnership with Heroic and giving them money for every game we buy through the client.

Heroic Games Launcher v2.13 brings GOG support improvements

Wow, just wow. Post-setup support for adding/removing DLC and switching languages, xdelta patching (no more downloading the whole game with each update, yay!), version pinning, channel selection... That's amazing.

Coupled with the incoming ULWGL which will provide support for protonfixes and will make gaming out of Steam practically as hassle-free as gaming on Steam, this means that all that's left for having a fully functional GOG client on Linux is decoupling support for the online features (multiplayer, achievements, in-game rewards, etc) from the Galaxy client.

Sure, wishful thinking, but wait a minute... an official partnership with GOG for buying games through Heroic? Could it be that GOG are finally, slowly beginning to take Linux gaming via Proton into serious consideration? Could it be that they're finally warming up to the notion of at least semi-officially allowing and/or helping the community to build a good client for GOG, given that they can't or don't want to do it themselves? Could it be that they've realized the Galaxy client is a dud and are exploring their options?

That would be even more amazing.

Unified Linux Wine Game Launcher aims to improve Windows games on Linux / Steam Deck

So, after years of getting his balls busted by people using GE-Proton with Lutris/Heroic/etc and breaking their games and then complaining about it, despite him patiently explaining to them over and over and over that they shouldn't be using GE-Proton outside of Steam because they risk breaking their game and that instead they should be using Wine-GE, it seems GloriousEggroll has finally caved in and decided to provide an officially nice way for people to use GE-Proton outside of Steam.

(In Tychus Findlay's voice) Hell, it's about time.

- Signed: a happy user of GE-Proton outside of Steam

AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 (FSR3) is now open source
14 Dec 2023 at 8:13 pm UTC Likes: 3

Quoting: jordicomaStill, I did a quick look at the source at it seems that it doesn't support linux, and vulkan is in development.
Hope someone manage to compile on linux and vulkan works. (And even make an opengl backend if possible).
But releasing the code is one start.
Well, it's a new technology that was also obviously rushed out the door before it was ready, back in October, so it makes sense that it's still missing bits and pieces and is for the time being focused on the most prevalent graphics stack first, i.e. DX12. Vulkan being in active development is enough for me.

I'm crossing my fingers that it will be possible to compile it as a DLL and so add unofficial FSR3 support to already existing games, like we can do with DLSS. And of course, that it will actually become usable in Wine in no more than a year from now (AFAIK, Proton devs have stated that FSR2 required work from AMD devs in order to build support for it in Proton, which probably means FSR3 will also need resources from an already resource-limited AMD).
